My dad's all time favorite movie is The Magnificent Seven. That was one that I saw all the time as a kid.

It's not something that I'd spend $75 MSRP on but some of you guys might dig this book entitled Hang 'Em High featuring 500 western movie posters. https://www.fantagraphics.com/products/hang-em-high-110-years-of-western-movie-posters-1911-2020?_pos=1&_psq=hang%20em&_ss=e&_v=1.0

What the hell else was there to do before they invented TV?

Much like The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre, there's cars in it so I say no.

For my money, The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre isn't a western because of the time period it takes place in. Once again, this is just me but when I think western, I think of the old west and you can see cars driving around Tampico in Treasure. Still a great movie and any reason to watch or talk...

Unforgiven is basically is as old now as Psycho was when I first watched it.

No disrespect to the other great movies that Bogart is in but The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre is my favorite.

Fun/pointless fact: on Breaking Bad, the character of Gale Boetticher is named after Budd. Another nod to the show being a "modern day western" in the minds of the writers.

I admit that my definition might not fit everyone's but for me, it needs to be the wild west of the 1800's in order to qualify as a western.

Huh, I never even once thought of The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre as being a western. Maybe my idea of what is and isn't a western is too narrow.

Eh, I've tried both and I'm pretty sure I'm happier with Star Wars. :)

If they've invented a more valuable use of time than that, I haven't heard of it.

When I was a kid, the western was dead so I gotta give it to my dad- who grew up on westerns in the 1950's- for showing me to a ton of them that I probably wouldn't have seen otherwise. I'm no authority on westerns but thanks to my old man, I feel like I've at least seen the highlights of the...

Wouldn't that be like someone saying "All those Alfred Hitchcock movies were ruined by his use of rear projection"?

I think it's indicative of how quickly westerns became a thing of the past. If a viewer isn't a certain age, westerns are almost non-existent to most of them. I'm in my mid-30's and I'd bet that even among big movie fans that I know, most of them haven't seen and maybe haven't even heard of The...
