As always, I'm a novice compared to basically everyone else in a Star Trek thread but I love reading about a show where you can see such diverse and knowledgable opinions about specific episodes. I'm not a fan of Assignment Earth but it's fun seeing the thoughts of people that do enjoy it.
I saw that and I was shocked that someone had the foresight or interest to snag Shatner's toupee back then. Today, I can see someone taking anything from any movie but I'm curious who thought to grab that in the late 60's.
As an aside, what an amazing collection/auction that is. Anyone wanna...
There was a daily and Sunday newspaper strip in the U.S. from 1978 or 79 to 1983 or so: https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Trek_Comic_Strip_(US)
And a separate strip in the UK as well (from the late 1960's to TMP's release): https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Trek_Comic_Strip_(UK)...
I guess we can all be glad that companies want to keep pumping money from their shows any way possible but at the same time, don't care as much about TV anymore since younger audiences go for streaming over cable or broadcast TV.
I think traditional TV is an entirely different thing. Those TV deals will likely go on as they always have because companies are currently focused on streaming so I'd assume that most companies with streaming services will largely be keeping the shows they own as exclusives for their service in...
If I was a betting man, I'd guess that a big budget movie in 1979 like TMP probably had radio ads as well. Based on when it seems like radio ads were dying out, I wouldn't be surprised if Trek III and thereafter didn't have them.
Again, those are total guesses on my part.
I'm guessing that's the size in canon but I'm surprised it's that small. I guess the bridge was used to establish that size but based on people hiding and all the hallways, decks, areas, and rooms seen in TOS, I thought that thing was like a small flying city and waaaaaaay bigger than 1,000 feet.
I had been taping episodes of shows here and there (usually with no way to know how many episodes there were) but the big one for me was taping The Simpsons as they aired. Those tapes quickly became mandatory for any sleepover during Simpsons-mania in 1990 and 1991. Then as I went to high school...
I guess it's only the type of thing you noticed as TV and home video got better in terms of AV quality because I have tapes that I recorded in the 80's or 90's and they look bad enough to me now that I can't believe that I didn't think they looked bad back then. Ignorance is bliss. :)
I really like the comedy and thought it was a nice change of pace after the seriousness of the other entries but I can understand how you and others would feel that way about it.
For me, I was charmed by her simply because I was pleasantly surprised to see the mom from Child's Play in a Star...
No doubt I'm not the first person to note this but I like that Trek IV didn't have a real villain. Khan and Klingon Christopher Lloyd were good villains but they were really serious so lightening this movie up by not having a deadly, threatening villain was a good move in my mind. There's still...
I saw Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home for the first time and what a fun movie. They probably go overboard with the fish out of water jokes but they kept making me laugh. Kirk saying "Is that a lot?" when he's selling the glasses, blaming "LDS" for Spock being odd, and my personal favorite Scotty...
I'm sure they've looked into this but isn't there some kind of physical strain to this flight that might be dangerous for a 90-year-old man? If I were 90, I wouldn't go outside for fear of a strong wind knocking me down let alone go to outer space.
That being said, probably every person...
WARNING: I'm about to ramble about The Wrath Of Khan:
I just watched Star Trek II and it greatly exceeded my memory of it. I saw it for the first time at a Fathom Event a few years and I had been watching TOS on ME-TV and had seen maybe half of the first season (I saw Space Seed but the movie...
Titan's solicitations for December came out today and this isn't on there. I can't find any listing for it (besides Amazon) but based on what Titan has done with similar Star Wars offerings, this will likely be entirely reprints of articles from the various Official Magazines and LOTS of photos...
In my experience with similar Star Wars books (honestly, they're more like magazines), Titan has nearly always published a softcover version at the same time too. Their solicitations for December should be up in the next few days so you'll know if they're making a more inexpensive alternative...
Considering the number of folks from the original series that were also involved with the animated series, I think that's enough to earn the animated series a spot in the canon. Unless including it creates some major continuity gaffe.
It was a smart move for the story but it was legitimately...
I finished the animated series and considering the limitation of the budgets, it was a pretty good show. Not knowing anything about Trek canon, I'm guessing that the animated series is not considered canon?
Also, what sick bastard thought it was OK to kill young Spock's pet? For a Saturday...
