Star Trek films on Blu-Ray... what we know so far

Only the guy who framed the lower shot gets his paycheck this week.

Yes, I agree, I spoke too harshly. I guess I'm just extremely grumpy at all things STAR TREK in 2009...

I'll help you on the latter but, sorry, no to the former. Ironic that the only way I can get what I want is to a) buy a costly boxed set that falls well below my standards and b) pay to see a reboot movie that looks excrutiatingly, migraine-inducingly poor. Well, Homie don't play dat.

The writer is obviously an idiot--he's clearly referring to VI, not IV. And if this is true--theatrical versions only of I, II and VI--then I'm officially out. Forget it. There's no justification for not offering both cuts, at least for II and VI, at this time.

Just couldn't show all of the delta shield, could they? Not really a problem with the layout on the TV set, but chopping the top off on the movie set just looks lazy and wrong...

That's not fair at all--you should give ALIEN another try, it's really good, too! ;)

I was with you intially--it's hard to fairly reassess what we've become used to, but the more you think about it, the sound design of TMP aligns with nothing we'd heard previous or since. The DC, while perhaps less sonically dynamic, is more in alignment with established TREK lore in several...

Precisely; in these days of economic hardship, if Paramount is willing to devote its more limited dollars where they matter (video/audio quality, worthwhile supplements) by cutting a few niceties where they really don't (I mean, come on, disc art--why do you really need that?), I'm not about to...

At this point, and I say this as a long-time die-hard Trekker, that may be the only thing that will drag me to the theater to see this...this...whatever the hell it is...

I'm confused--the newer D.C. does not erase anything substantial of Trumbull's exceptional work (the aforementioned Vulcan shot is the only thing that comes to mind, and the newer graphics are an improvement in that regard), so the original theatrical version won't be giving you much of anything...

And even the DC of TMP looks like ass, riddled with dirt and debris, with a dark and drab overall appearance. You can argue the rest, but TMP needs a full blown restoration.

Keep in mind, in the second season episode "Who Mourns For Adonais?", Kirk tells Apollo that mankind has grown beyond the need for gods and that "we find the one sufficient". You are right, though, that any religion in the 23rd Century has been boiled down to only its broadest, most universal...

Sorry to take an alternate opinion from Jason V but there is absolutely no evidence that Paramount is "taking their time to do the Director's Edition properly" at all. We may never see the DE ever again, especially in light of Paramount's historical...ahem...thrifty nature...

Very poor decision to forego the Director's Cut; hell, Paramount has been working on the new TREK movie for awhile now and then they delayed its release half a year, so this Blu-ray release window sure as hell didn't just sneak up on Paramount. They've had plenty of time to get this right. I...
