Will be awesome to have on disc in HD anyway..
Unfortuntely, (going by most/all previous such releases) those of us who'd like some bonus features of any kind will very likely have to go search Youtube or, if we have it, pull out our old laserdisc.
Is the extended version of B&B available to stream in High Def? If not, perhaps this version requires expensive restoration/ cleanup which just hasn't been performed or greenlit as yet? Could this also be the case with THM?
If lack of overture on TBH is simply a unintended glitch, which it...
JZSYK I've edited my post for clarity. How much clout do you suppose someone like Robert Harris, or even the film critic Leonard Maltin (a Disney historian who's appeared in many WD docs and featurettes) would have with the studio suits/ division heads?
What do you guys think the chances are Disney will correct this apparent error and/or offer replacement discs? btw It may help to bring this to the attention of someone like Bill Hunt at the Digital Bits site (I would, but unfortunately my email's screwed up right now)
Thanks for the info/ pics.. Yes, it would appear the DVD is very much modified. That said, your pics also prove the claims of several reviews I've read, that although it is cropped on the sides (heavily, come to find out) there is a gain, if not much of one, of info at top + bottom and the most...
According to imdb (not that they're 100% reliable) THAT DARN CAT was filmed spherical/ "flat". Therefore, although it's not the theatrical OAR (1.75:1, again according to imdb) it is likely the fullscreen DVD is actually open-matte, meaning a gain in picture info on top and bottom of screen...
For some reason, the Movie Club website will not load for me lately (not good, as I need to log in to decide on [decline, that is] my monthly selection). Unfortunately, regardless of what I try, I keep getting the message "site error".
Thanks for the list, David Norman. Other studios have made a killing from their own MOD programs. While I see the need for exclusive titles for their club, I think Disney's overall strategy, at least in regards to back catalog, is a bit flawed. They also seem to have developed a strong aversion...
To the person talking about Millnnials not buying discs et cetera:
The trouble with Millennials is a lot of them, especially the latter half of that generation (those born roughly mid-1990s to early 2000s), have become used to not paying much, if anything, for their home entertainment... and...
The studios and their various home ent. divisions are mostly run by beancounters these days, many of whom are not all that familiar with the very product/ brands their studios are known for. I wouldn't be surprised if there are people at Disney who've never heard of Donald Duck! :) These people...
WHAT's the deal with Disney these days? Not all that long ago, they had no problem sublicensing their product to Anchor Bay, but now they won't license to third parties? Why don't they start an MOD program like most other studios have?
Is that the Australian "advance" poster? I love it! And I agree, you're MOST likely to be know + love, or otherwise be affected by, this movie if you grew up in the 80s/ early 90s, just as someone who grew up in the 50s/early 60s would be most 'connected' (for lack of best word) to the arts/...
People seem to like just dropping words like "cheesy" or (in this case) "fluffy" to describe something.
I agree "Wizard of Oz" was not quite as dark as the original book but it was made with a very broad audience - families - in mind (and 1939 families at that). That said, the movie still had...
Thanks for the info, David..I may have to give them a call soon (esp. if my order doesn't show up in next few business days).
ONE more thing about "BLACK HOLE": The John Barry score is AWESOME.. As a previous poster pointed out, it is operatic, but appropriate - certainly for a Sci-fi/adventure...
I recently joined DMC and have an order on the way, but didn't see any tracking info anywhere, including the confirmation email they sent.. Do they just not offer it? Not that I'm super-impatient or something, It's just that, like many folks, I like to know where my stuff is (not to mention it's...
To the criticisms leveled at "The Black Hole", both in this forum and elsewhere: As with many older FX movies, some of the FX may not look as good as they once did. Some of them (such as the meteor/ asteroid that smashes through the ship late in the movie) still hold up fairly well. Some of them...
Authors are often very unhappy with changes that occur as a story is being adapted to the screen. I believe Bradbury himself wrote the screenplay, so his complaints about the ultimate outcome can only be so valid. Plus, I'm sure he must have understood that not everything that works on the page...
SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES (1983) cries out for a Blu-ray or UHD release. Besides the obvious potential benefits of a new transfer, there were several supplements missing from both the Anchor Bay and Disney DVD releases that were on a laserdisc issued by Disney in the 90s. This included a...
Not sure if this is the place to list (if not, please let me know where). My picks for future Disney Club blus:
The Black Hole
The Happiest Millionaire
Darby O'Gill & the Little People (widescreen, please)
Scarecrow of Romney Marsh
The Shaggy Dog (original, of course)
The Shaggy D.A...
