I received my Tales Of Adventure Collection 2 from Imprint today. All films are region free but other than commentaries, the special features are pretty skimpy. I haven't watched any of them but did a quick scan of the set:
Angel On The Amazon (1948) and Daughter Of The Jungle (1949) are on one...
Could that possibly be because The Counterfeit Traitor is a Paramount film? The new restoration of One Eyed Jacks used by Criterion is copyrighted by Universal as Paramount let it slip into the public domain.
I watched the Imprint release of Damage (1992) tonight and it looked pretty good to these old eyes. I must say I found the "erotic" sex scenes between Jeremy Irons and Juliette Binoche more unintentionally laughable than erotic. Thanks heaves for the fast forward button.
I watched Imprint's blu ray of Bus Riley's Back In Town last night. The transfer is a disappointment. While it's watchable, it's clearly had no work done on it. The picture is overly dark and often muddy looking. If this was what Universal handed over to Imprint, it's a shame.
Normally, the...
I'm very pleased with how Omar Khayyam looks. The colors are vivid and the picture is sharp. The speckling is very minor and in no way impinges on the enjoyment of the film.
The back jacket lists all four films as being 1080p. But then again, it lists the aspect ratios as 2.35/1.33 ignoring the 1.85 aspect ratios of Rome and Hawaiian.
Got the Via Vision Gidget Collection on blu ray this afternoon and have scanned all 4 titles. Everything looks fine. The 2.35 scope transfer of Gidget looks to be the same transfer put out by Twilight Time. Gidget Goes Hawaiian and Gidget Goes To Rome are (finally) in their correct 1.85 ratio...
I've just watched the Indicator release of Resurrection (1980) with Ellen Burstyn and it looks just fine. More importantly it includes extras that are not on the barebones Universal domestic blu ray of Resurrection including a new half hour filmed interview with Burstyn about Resurrection that...
Some good stuff here! I'll probably get the noir box set just for the two Ida Lupino movies. And the blu ray debut of Omar Khayyam (never released on DVD or laser disc) is going to make a lot of people very happy. And as a huge Mia Farrow fanboy, I'm all over The Haunting Of Julia/Full Circle.
Wow! Some good stuff here. Definitely interested in The Mountain, Carrie, Something To Live For and maybe Resurrection. Glad to see Imprint is now listing the sources of their transfers.
While (unfortunately) many pressed discs have gone bad on me over the many years I've been collecting. I've never had a MOD ("burned") disc go bad on me. The idea that a MOD disc blu of The Molly Maguires is somehow inferior to the upcoming Imprint is absurd especially since no one has seen the...
I got the Imprint blu ray of The Nelson Affair (aka Bequest To The Nation) in yesterday's mail. The picture is quite decent but the audio doesn't sound right. It sounds like fake stereo with the sound and dialog coming out of the rear speakers as well as the front speakers.
A nice selection of titles. However, I stand to be corrected but none seem to be new transfers and those who have been waiting forever for Barabbas are bound to be disappointed. I'll be waiting on reviews but the only one I'll be getting for sure is The Nelson Affair which never got a DVD or...
Having just watched the Aussie import of The Naked Jungle, I agree the colors are an improvement over the DVD. However, the film really needs a new HD transfer to be done. On both the DVD and blu ray, there are too many scenes that are soft looking and lack clarity. Close ups are nice but medium...
I'm interested in The Naked Jungle and Outrage but considering Imprint's spotty record on transfers, I'll wait on reviews. I have the French blu ray of House Of Cards and it looks great so no need for me to upgrade.
Absolutely! There's nothing wrong with the current Sunset Boulevard blu ray and do we really need another double dip when Paramount has so many titles yet to make their debut on blu ray: The Greatest Show On Earth, The Naked Jungle, Dragonslayer, The Joker Is Wild, The Rose Tattoo, Come Back...
An assumption on my part as the film was released in December of 1954, well into the wide screen era. I seriously doubt it was shown 1.37 in cinemas at that point. If the blu ray is 1.33, I'm not interested.
It will be nice to have Bridges At Toko Ri and The Apostle in anamorphic transfers. Their DVD incarnations are full frame (BATR) and non anamorphic wide screen (TA).
