Too lazy to go through all the comments (in my case I'm blanking on when I last/ever used these apps so not likely to miss them) but, this is a valid complaint: "Is it just me or is it harder to find stuff in the TV app?"
My top complaint: the Paramount+ section of the Apple TV app, which...
So my friend dug up their 4K AppleTV from the basement and hooked it up: as expected the picture vastly improved.
FWIW, the aTV sets up the stream to Dolby Vision by default when hooked up to a new device. The one thing I had to hunt for in the LG setting was to turn on CEC so that the aTV...
Apple TV vs. OLED LG TV built in apps. At a friends house, they have brand new equivalent to ours OLED LG but they never connected their Apple TV to it. We watched on Netflix a 4K Dolby Vision movie that looked absolutely horrible (the daytime soup opera bright cheap video look). I am guessing...
Supposedly HBO fixed their app -- haven't looked at it, too busy enjoying the Hulu app finally with 5.1 sound. Recommended -- the best picture winner, Nomadland, season 4 of Veronica Mars, etc.

Right, I meant streaming service. That in and of itself is a big deal.
Try the whole thing for a month. I can't make recommendations based on special audio or Dolby Atmos or lossless audio -- that no doubt also produces different results based on your sound system. The streaming service...
As an Apple Music subscriber I always thought it was better than the other option. It has gotten that much better still. Who cares about the marketing? Chose the one that is best for you, you’ll be listening to music, not marketing
Where did you read it?? As I posted earlier it does do 5.1 on the iPad which you can sneak onto the aTV via screen mirroring. But I haven't noticed 5.1 working directly on the aTV...yet.
So far as HBO, it is a running joke on Tweeter. And unfortunately, usually, persuading an app reversal to...
So Hulu does have 4K — https://hd-report.com/hulu-movies-tv-shows-in-4k-ultra-hd-hdr/
with any of those you have a dilemma— either AirPlay from your iPad to get the 5.1 sound OR play it directly from the Hulu app to get the 4K video….
Hardly -- do you really think that aTV/iOS will suddenly start supporting DVD/Blu-ray playback? (Heck, they've gone the opposite direction -- Apple's DVD app is gone from the latest macOS.
The good news there is that a beta of Infuse is now available on macOS Big Sur -- so it is coming to the Mac.
Dear Disney, please send one of your Disney+ techies over to Hulu to fix the bugs...
How did I find out 5.1 was working via the iPad? I was trying to finish watching the Oscars from the middle of the show, and Hulu on aTV didn't let me scroll trough the show. Tried it on the iPad --...
We are using the Hulu app on the aTV for the first time. No 5.1 sound ?!? -- is this a known bug or???
The Hulu app on the iPad *does* have 5.1 sound -- so if you AirPlay 2 from the iPad to the AppleTV, then you do get 5.1 sound
?? UI‘s of the non-Apple devices suck. That’s why I only use my aTV for headphones after my wife goes to bed. My Denon receiver only does wired headphone, and no household member, including our dogs approve of wires across the floor to the coach.
as for the TV, once set up and working...
That iPad would run the Apple Remote software. Too big? It could be used one handed on the coach next to you, on your leg, etc. I actually use my 10.5" iPad Pro as a Harmony remote - I only use my iPhone if the iPad isn't there.
Ironic because I do use Harmony for everything *BUT* the Apple TV 4k -- I absolutely love the remote, and hate all the standard too-many-buttons remotes for the other devices.
You say you have no iPhone -- how about an iPod Touch, an iPad or an old iPhone sitting around somewhere (it can be...
I am sure there are multiple such apps, just depends on which one is important for which user. In my case the app is Infuse, which by itself would make the AppleTV vital.
I am absolutely a fan of the AppleTV 4K hardware, but I have not had the opportunity to test out vs the Roku.
I will say that the AppleTV 4K is clearly superior to the software on my LG OLED HDR 4K TV
Yes, in fact the majority of the DVDs from my collection that I bothered copying to my Mac are PAL, so I depend on Infuse/aTV 4K to make them look properly on my LG OLED 4K HDR tv - and I am very happy with the results
Yes — thank you for explaining on my behalf! And in my case also not altering my EyeTV & TiVO recordings. Functional audio was why I got Infuse in the first place, but it is absolutely wonderful in every respect: UI, support, video quality, both its AppleTV and iPad apps
Considering how devoted I am to Infuse on my AppleTV, not to mention support for Apple devices and the ever more amazing screen saver, and excellent 4K/HDR quality, basically the only thing I use my LG is as a dumb monitor.
I am absolutely on Sam's side here: the aTV remote is the *only* remote I use other than the Harmony (Logitech) universal remote iPad/iPhone app.
My favorite aTV remote feature is the ability to slide back and forth over a video to get to a specific spot - it works with anything, but I...
AFAIK it works for me - but so far as HDR is concerned I’m more of a Netflix/iTunes HDR guy, than Amazon Prime.
When I was trying HDR on Amazon I remember it being really badly designed- you could end up with either a non-HDR or HDR version of the exact same show, depending on where exactly you...
For TV, I always look at the Just Watch app to check what streaming services carry it. I wonder how 5.1 compares between iTunes & Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc for the same show.
I really wouldn’t call I fast forwarding: here is an example-say I’m watching a talk show with a music guest. I watch the monologue hit pause, see that we are on min 9 of a 60 min show, & I slide straight to min 54, guessing that’s where the music guest starts playing. Way more direct than any...
For me it is most often a talk show thing where I am skipping for a particular guest or band.
And as I mentioned - the shows I tend to watch, the TiVo skip feature is not available, or not until the next day. I think they have humans doing it for them.
