Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

It's a nationwide thing. Sam's Club is out of the physical media business at many locations.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

My local Sam's Club, which used to be a good source of DVD/BD especially of vintage material from Timeless, CBS/P, has dropped all inventory and tells me this is a permanent move. One employee told me there was a theft problem. Has anyone seen their local Sam's do away with their inventory?

Speaking of Ozzie & Harriet, is this a dead project or is Sam still plugging away?

Great post, Glen! However I must vehemently protest and disagree with your statement that "Gary is not a young man". Being in the same age bracket he is, I refuse to think of any of us (you included) as anything but "young at heart" and of body & spirit as well. [emoji3]

God Bless, Gary. You've made numerable contributions to HTF and are one of the reasons this is an entertaining and educational places to hang out.

Agree 100% - the personal touches each poster brings to this thread is what makes for good reading and helps show that we all have common ground.

Carab, that was beautiful and I'm not ashamed to admit I shed tears listening to it. My Dad passed away less than a month ago, and he is the reason I got into nostalgia and these B&W movies and shows we all love so much. Best to you with your book!

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Happy Belated Birthday, Gary! I trust it was a good one with the family. Thank you for the updates although it isn't what anyone wants to hear. Bonanza isn't one of my grails, but I do feel for those who do collect this title. Gunsmoke is one that I haven't started collecting but has...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I've held off on buying these shows (HGWT and RH) due to the lack of remastering certain seasons, but will certainly strongly consider a complete series reissue if these are fixed. Unfortunately the only similar situations I know of is Hawaii Five-O where S10 was fixed and ILL where S1 was...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Agreed that Burke's Law needs to be released. I caught the run several years back on the RTV network and this is a very fun show. It's not got a ton of episodes and would seem to be a natural for someone to put out. The prints also looked good. The company that put out Ellery Queen did such...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I don't know what the correct number of S1 episodes is, but the CBS site shows: S1 - 32 S2 - 32 S3 - 34 S4 - 32 Total - 130 This is great news as I'll finally get to see a series that I've heard about but never seen. Hopefully the entire run gets transferred.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Did the last volume of "Steve Canyon" ever get released? I had that show on my watch list for awhile for eventual purchase but lost track of it. The last I remember reading was that delays had occured but the gentleman working on the releases was working diligently to make it happen. He...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

TVShowsonDVD.com posted a story that included a rumor (that they could not confirm) that ILL would follow the Honeymooners and be the next classic B&W offering in Blu Ray. They referenced a couple of well known names (not identified) as being quoted on this. I assumed this had to be either...

Amen to that! I've found that particular favorites in TV Land are like comfort food - just what the doctor ordered when you've had a stressful day/week. Additionally, the best of the best hold up after repeated viewings. TAGS is like that. I also routinely pull out the Dick Van Dyke episode...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

My wife wanted to see the new movie and and so we went this afternoon. I chose to overlook the critics and hoped this would prove to be like the Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes series (faithful and respectful to the character and successful at creating a new generation of fans). I was very...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

What would be even nicer is if CM would have used complete episodes with fresh transfers. After reading comments in the Lone Ranger thread from an individual who bought the mega set this went to my do not purchase list unfortunately. I noticed that the sets that my Costco got in for $99 have...

I can confirm that I also saw Rawhide at Sam's for the same price. Sometimes Walmart will have CBS/P new releases at the $19.99 price point also. I purchased the last Matlock release at that price and have seen Gunsmoke and some others as well. Glen, I was just at Sam's this evening and they...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Great article, Ron. Thank you! Now I'm curious as to what is really in Orlando. This could be a Batmobile like situation where the show had multiple versions of the vehicle. I didn't realize until today that George Barris also did the BH truck.

Thanks, Gary. I don't recall ever seeing these before; this is great stuff. Incidentally, the Hillbillies truck is now at the Planet Hollywood at Downtown Disney in Orlando for anyone in the area interested in seeing it. Also, when watching that video one of the sidebar videos was Don Adams...

Agree that more Maverick would be welcome. I'd also prefer retail releases over MOD. Also looking forward to what Sam Nelson can do with Ozzie & Harriet.

Fourthed :) I hope everyone had a safe, blessed, and joyful Thanksgiving Day with those closest to them. As this year comes to a close, it appears that there is still some reason to be optimistic for 2013 with some releases of B&W material. Time will tell for certain and the state...

Gary, thank you very much for all that you've done in keeping all members informed of these releases and for being an integral part of what makes these boards fun to read. I completely understand and respect your decision. Steve

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Hi Jeff, I second Gary's recommendation on PM S1 V1 with V2 as the follow up. The first season was a whopping 39 episodes and considering how cheaply those volumes can be had now, they're a great bang for the buck. There was no "ramp up" period for this show, the characters are fully...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Great comments all around on the CBS/P ".com only" initiative. It's great that these are not burned DVD-R releases, but the same quality releases we've always gotten. Like most here, I do most shopping online so this will have no impact. I used to find some good deals at Sam's Club but...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I agree with you. I grew up loving this show and would have supported the DVD releases if the backscore hadn't been butchered. Unfortunately that act probably killed any chance of this show having decent sales. Don's premature passing did give me pause becuase it was a reminder we're...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

There is some positive news from CBS/P's syndication bible website....the most recent updates have been summarized. I'm particularly happy to see that all nine Perry Mason seasons will have been transfered to HD soon. That bodes well for a fairly rapid wrap up of this series on DVD. The shows...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Thanks, Gary, even if the news isn't good. Sad to say, it isn't all that surprising. Having seen some takeovers in my "real" life, the acquired company (more often than not) usually ceases to exist over a period of time and the staff that made them successful in the first place are either...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

This is great news and I applaud CBS/P for finding a way to keep these releases coming. E-tailer only is no big deal to me....my credit card bills from Amazon are proof enough of that :) Randy has a valid point about pricing but I've rarely found B&M to be consistently competive in...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Very tantalizing and very welcome news :) Thanks, Gary! I'm not exactly sure what to make of the "how they come may be unique" comment. At the risk of upsetting some, I really hope CBS/P does NOT go down the MOD route. That would be a major turnoff for a variety of reasons. However...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Hi Gary, I was going to post the same thing. We went to Sam's this afternoon and noticed nearly all of the Timeless material was GONE! They used to have a wide variety of Timeless titles. I've also noticed that fewer of the CBS/P vintage releases were being carried by Sam's also...
