General Discussion The Criterion Channel Streaming Service (Official Thread)

Belated notification for the 1% of us who use the Criterion Channel app on the Xbox: a few months back they finally enabled English subtitles for English movies! This week I caught up with two brilliant films: Smooth Talk (harrowing) and The Arbor (grueling). I recommend both highly, but...

General Discussion The Criterion Channel Streaming Service (Official Thread)

I just heard back from their customer support. They informed me they had just rolled out a server side fix for this issue, and right now it's working for me again (!). I am using a Chromecast Ultra with Android 9 (Kernel 4). They also provided a list of "tips" for people who still don't have...

Possibly good news for those of you with Chromecast. The Android and iOS versions of the Criterion Channel app have been updated to support casting (for real this time, not the browser-cast loophole). The only caveat is that some earlier devices may not support Vimeo's DRM schema. I can confirm...

General Discussion The Criterion Channel Streaming Service (Official Thread)

They updated the Android app today and removed the cast button from videos. Yikes. Pretty disappointing. Yes, it's a launch, but the support staff has been dismissive about a large quantity of their subscribers unable to stream on mainstream devices, or about how the app is missing basic...

General Discussion The Criterion Channel Streaming Service (Official Thread)

PSA: The Criterion Channel does NOT support Chromecast. What a bummer! The app's support staff (in the Android store) have insinuated it's a legal issue over which they have no control, but I think it's a technical issue related to the DRM technology they're using to stream the content...
