I can watch 3D at home since I have a projector.
I like to have the option of watching in 3D so I’ll try to get the 3D disc along with the 4K UHD disc. But I honestly rarely actually watch anything in 3D. For a movie like this, however, I’ll likely watch it both ways.
I also noticed more studdery or juddery motion in some shots when it switched to 24fps. More than what I normally expect from 24fps. It seemed to be in the transitions. I’m not sure if that is a real side effect of the transition from 48 to 24, or if it was just that limitations of 24fps motion...
These are all things (at least the Kiri stuff for sure) that should be further explored as the story continues. This movie was made as the start of a larger story (movies 2 and 3 shot back to back and 4 partially filmed) with the immediate threat playing out but with more story still to come.
I thought this was excellent.
It was also beautiful visually. The high frame rate worked for me unlike with The Hobbit where I really disliked it. I think 24fps motion doesn’t look good in 3D, but the combination of 3D with HFR was really good here. I liked that Cameron kept the 24fps look...
Terminator, Terminator 2, Aliens, True Lies, THE ABYSS, Titanic, Avatar, …
I mean, Aliens has to be about one of the absolute best cinematic experiences in the history of mankind (unless you are some kind of jerk face). ;)
I’m not sure there is another director that has hit a home run for me...
Speaking of 3D, has anyone ever experimented with letting their brain create a pseudo 3D image of 2D displays by covering one eye?
I read about this a while back and tried it myself, and I’m always quite amazed at the effect.
Quite simply, while watching 2D material on your display you cover...
Interesting. I figured they would have had Grace’s consciousness finding it’s way into a new Avatar. This is an interesting way to keep using Sigourney without going that route.
We already discussed that a character in the teaser looks very much like an Avatar version Steven Lang’s Quaritch...
When it was announced a while ago that both Stephen Lang and Sigourney Weaver were returning I’ve wondered if both would be resurrected in new Avatar bodies. A path to preserving Grace’s mind was already established in the first film, but with Quaritch is was less clear how he might return...
At the end of his career just because of his age? Tell that to George Miller.
I really liked Avatar. I'm not sure why Cameron needs to make four follow-ups, but if he has a specific story he wants to tell over multiple installments, I say have at it. I'll be excited to see them.
