Yes absolutely. He was a bully and a blowhard and had delusions of grandeur. He was to be laughed at. He schemes never worked and he failed at everything because he never approached it the right way and watching him fail was where I got the most enjoyment (Ed was my go-to for genuine laughs)...
The Luftwaffe was as much a Nazi organization as any of the military, they just weren't Gestapo. Luftwaffe used concentration camp labor and were heavily involved in war crimes. So, yeah, I wouldn't give them a pass on that level.
What makes Hogan's Heroes acceptable (to me) is that German POW...
Yeah pretty much. Maybe cheaper since Doctor Who was established and a massive success, so they may have had a little more money there. But this the BBC, so they looked like they had the same shoestring budget on Blakes 7.
Blakes 7 is a masterwork. It's also four series not just one. And I admit, it takes a little while to get going. I encourage you to try again and push through the first handful of episodes. The show really takes off and is absolutely worth the time.
As a lifelong Trek fan, my mouth is hanging open. I can only imagine your caught it during a run of the third season where the seris could be exactly those things. In the first two seasons they really did make it a point to have most of the episodes an action adventure SF show. As a kid, I found...
I love this series, easily my favorite 80's cop series. Actually it gets more serious in the third season. I'd love to know the behind the scenes story of this show. It was successful as a kid friendly, formulaic action show with laughs and stunts, but then it turned and suddenly Hooker was on...
It didn't help that the Blu Rays of TNG didn't sell nearly as well as they hoped. DS9 was never a ratings juggernaut like TNG was, apparently, and all those episodes make it too big and expensive a project to tackle. Ironically, if DS9 had failed and been cancelled after a couple of seasons, it...
100% agreed here. I don't know how many shots were rebuilt vs cleaned up, but the series looks amazing. TOS, IMO, doesn't have the same feel. It always looks like we're going to a different TV series when we hit the new FX.
Voyage's visuals are the one thing that do still hold up better than Star Trek's. In camera model effects don't have the same degradation in film as green screen and matte work does. So the Seaview looks amazing as she cruises the seas, especially in the color episodes. The Flying Sub is a...
I absolutely agree. This forum is a breath of fresh air on the interwebs. Other than the occasional heated exchange, mostly because of misunderstanding, this is a great group of people who share the same interest. If not in the details, at least in the overall topic of classic television. Some...
Airwolf - I'm surprised at how well this series holds up, especially the first season. However, yeah, at some point, they decided to make this a message show. I wouldn't mind, but those episodes are just so heavy handed. However, the series is great fun and one of my favorites.
Emergency! - I...
Honestly, the most "realistic" western I had seen was Back to the Future Part III. Everyone looked like they stank, had bad teeth and heavy clothing. It looked extremely uncomfortable. Recently, I saw The Covered Wagon and, because it was filmed really only a couple of decades after the period...
I love the earlier Bonanza era. Even well after Roberts left (I wasn't a fan since it was clear he hated being there), I enjoyed it. But at some point, it lost its feel and began to resemble the later Little House on the Prairie. I know that's backwards, but I watched Little House first run and...
I think it was said in the Mission: Impossible Dossier by Ted White that Lupus' popularity was underestimated and they brought in Sam Elliott as a doctor as a potential replacement. But the fans preferred Lupus and the team didn't need a doctor since by this time they were all experts in...
Mission Impossible has an amazing first season. The characters are more human and it has a stronger action approach. Later seasons did become more repetitive but I still enjoy it from time to time. But it's not a favorite.
As far as I Love Lucy, I absolutely bow to the historical significance...
Once Lucy was on her own, her series were cookie cutter, at least that's how I felt. She had the same writers forever and they never really changed the formula. Even though he did other stuff, it feels Gale Gordon wouldn't have had a career if not for the Lucy friendship. The Lucy/Desi mix was...
Definitely I Love Lucy. I totally acknowledge its classic status and respect everything and everyone involved. It was a watershed series and it's one of the main reasons we have syndicated reruns to begin with.
But I hate it. Just not my thing. Love the theme music, though.
