I'd be willing to bet that "a large segment" of the population has never even heard of this film, let alone is offended by it. Besides, since when does offending large segments of the population keep films from being released? There are plenty of films full of violence, gore, profanity...

There truly is nothing new under the sun. I can hardly read the news without being told that something or another is racist. It's certain that SotS would offend some people if it were released, but Disney has already offended me with a lot of things, and that seems to not bother them one iota...

Their latest batch of Marvel films tells me otherwise. There is an agenda being pursued but I'll say no more about that. ---------------
