We were on the island again last week for three nights, and had beautiful weather. Also stayed a couple of days in Marquette in the Upper Peninsula. Here are a few shots from this visit to Mackinac Island:
We were on Mackinac Island once again earlier this week for three nights. The weather was pretty lousy (lots of rain and temps in the 50's). It felt more like October than June. The lilacs were in full bloom, though. I didn't get many nice photos, but this was the first trip using my new Canon...
Looks like you visited during the autumn color season, @Jeff Whitford . What a great time to travel through northern Michigan! It's been a few years since we've been in the Upper Peninsula. Need to do that again soon.
There should have been workers walking around sweeping up the manure -- we certainly saw them during our two visits there last year. Everything is definitely more expensive on the island, though. We stopped for lunch at a local place in Roscommon where my parents had lived for 31 years (about an...
There has been a charge for entry to Fort Mackinac as long as I can remember, and I have been going to the island since I was a kid. As for the Grand Hotel, there is no reason that you could not take a photo for free from the main road. Plus, if you know the back way into the property from the...
It is certainly not cheap to stay on the island -- and prices keep going up, just like everywhere else during these times of runaway inflation. Not sure what you expected with the horse manure, either, as the animals are used for so many things and they have to "do their business" somewhere...

We just got home yesterday after a three night stay on the island. Arriving just after the Memorial Day holiday worked well. The place was packed on the weekend, according to the employees and business owners we talked with, but was very quiet and uncrowded for our stay.
The sad part was that...
I use Smugmug, but there is an annual fee. Flickr is free and Amazon provides photo sharing if you are a Prime member. There is also Google Drive and One Drive. If you Google "photo sharing websites" you should find even more.
The downside to the free sites is you usually only get a limited...
Yes, they are short lived, but a real nuisance. We only visited the island once in May, and the flies were so bad we could not ride our bikes around the island -- we ended up getting plastered with bugs. They also swarmed all over us in the parking lot on the dock, getting into the car. Yuck...
Not sure how easy it is, but I simply use the IMG ubcode to link to my photos which are stored on a photo sharing website -- Smugmug, in my case. All you need to do is the following, without the spaces between the brackets and the IMG code:
[ IMG ] link to photo [ /IMG ]
I believe you can...
Looks like you made the most of your one night stay on the island, @John Dirk. It looks like you had sunny weather. May can be a roll of the dice up there, and the fish flies come out for a week or so - - they cover everything!
John,
I am so glad you made it to Mackinac Island (it's spelled with a "C", not a "W" like Mackinaw City on the mainland). We love the Pink Pony. I would love to see some photos of places you visited.
My wife and I will be visiting the island early next month for three nights. We took...
John,
It's surprising how many Michigan residents have never visited the island. If you decide to make the trip, I am sure you will have a great time. We have another trip scheduled for September -- we've been doing the June / September trips for quite a few years, avoiding the more crowded...
We visited Mackinac Island again last weekend. The trip was originally scheduled for June, but the island was late opening up due to the virus. So, we visited the island in the middle of summer for the first time in many, many years. We wisely decided to leave our bicycles at home -- the road...
We visited the island again early this week. The weather could have been better, but we did have one nice day.
We took a "Sip and Sail" sunset cruise for the first time. It gave us a unique view of the bridge.

I finally got around to processing my photos from our trip to the island during the Lilac Festival in June. Here are a few:

Tony,
I am so glad you enjoyed the visit to the island, despite some rough weather. Denise and I really enjoyed having dinner with you and your lovely wife.
I will post some photos when we get home. Hopefully I will get a few decent ones from tomorrow's Lilac Festival parade.
The Grand Hotel is the most expensive place to stay on the island. It's also rather "stuffy", as in the evenings men must wear a jacket and tie, while ladies must wear a dress. We have never stayed there, and never will. Every place else on the Island is very casual.
The Lilac Festival is a...
Tony,
Hotels and bed & breakfasts book up fast, so the earlier you book the better. We always stay at the Island House, but it’s not cheap. There are a few less than expensive hotels right in town, and some bed & breakfasts on Market Street. If you can find something for under $200 per night...
That's great, Tony. It's a wonderful place to spend a few days. You will need to plan that visit a little more than six months out, though, as the island pretty much shuts down at the end of October until May. About the only things open are one bar/restaurant (The Mustang Lounge) and a couple...
We were on Mackinac Island again last weekend, showing the island to some friends from North Carolina who were visiting for the first time. The area experienced gale force winds on the day we arrived, which made for a harrowing ferry ride across the Straits of Mackinac to the island, and...
We were on Mackinac Island again last week. I didn't take many photos, as we were with friends and I only brought along my Canon EOS M. Here are a few different shots than I've posted in this thread in the past, though.
The autumn colors are just beginning to emerge
We visited the island again last week, celebrating my parents anniversary and Father's Day a little early. The lilacs were in full bloom.
This is the first time we've ever seen a cruise ship on the island, and there were two different ships there on consecutive nights.
Here are both of the...
We just got back from a couple night's stay on Mackinac Island. I decided to travel light this time and only brought along my Canon EOS M body along with the 22mm pancake and 18-55mm lenses. Here are a few shots:

We just returned from another week in northern Michigan, spending two nights on Mackinac Island and then continuing on to Michigan's Upper Peninsula, staying in Copper Harbor and then heading to Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior. I will create a new thread for the Isle Royale photos...
