A couple of shots of tonight's blue super moon. I took both using my RF 800mm f/11 lens. The first photo is with a Canon R6 Mark II full frame body, and the second is with a Canon R10 crop body. I cropped both some in post processing.

We just returned home from my parents place in northern Michigan, so I didn't feel like battling the Arctic cold temperatures to setup for a shot last night. You were more ambitious than I was, Sam.
Thanks for posting this, Brian. I'm not sure if we will be home that night, but if we are I may give it a try with my Canon 100-400L II + 1.4x extender. That's my longest lens.
With a 200mm lens, even on a crop body, you will have to crop the photo quite a bit in post processing, Brian. The one I took in post #65 was with a Canon crop body, 400mm lens and 1.4x teleconvertor (total of 896mm equivalent field of view), and I still needed to crop the photo some in...
I wasn't out there at dusk, but I do agree that it was pretty normal looking later. I took the above photo around 8pm. I could try a little earlier this evening, but I think the forecast is for cloudy skies.
Fox was showing the super moon during the Pittsburgh - Dallas football game this evening, so after the game I took a few shots. Luckily it's a clear night here in Michigan. Used my Canon 7D2 with 100-400L II and 1.4x teleconvertor, plus cropped the photo some in Lightroom.
Cameron,
I would look for something different than that Tamron 200-500 for rental. Either the Tamron 150-600 or Sigma 150-600 stabilized lenses are newer with better optics. I can't imagine either would cost much more to rent for a couple of days.
The colors outweigh the sharpness issues, Cameron. That is such an interesting color for the moon -- wish we had clearer skies.
The funny thing is I was watching the Lions - Broncos Sunday Night Football debacle, and they showed the eclipse during the game and the announcers said it was a...
As I pulled into my driveway tonight getting home from golf league, the moon looked so impressive over my neighbor's house that I thought I would give it a try. This is my first attempt at shooting the moon. I used my Canon 7D2, 100-400L II and Canon 1.4x III teleconvertor. I cropped the shot...
I think that demonstrates as much the moon orbiting the earth as the rotation of the earth. ;)
Anyway, that is pretty amazing the amount of reach you can get these days with a super zoom point & shoot camera.
Very cool, Sam. I do not know much about telescopes. What type of scope do you have? I assume the adapter for your Nikon only allows manual focusing -- correct? The image quality is quite impressive.
When we were in Glacier National Park last summer, another visitor allowed me to look through...
Nice effort, Sam. Flickr blocked the EXIF data for the photo. Could you share the exposure settings and focal length you used, and whether it was on a crop or full frame body?
I forgot about this event last night, as I was going to give it a "shot". I have never tried shooting the moon, but I...
How does the image look with a tighter crop? The best moon shots I have seen are much tighter, where the subject fills the frame. You can really see the details of the moon then. Maybe try with a teleconverter attached, too?
