6 years of use took its toll on my D4, but a quick trip to NPS has it even better than new. They replaced the bayonet and hot flash, cleaned it up, scrubbed the sensor, and put in all new rubber. It seriously looks brand new. And now its time for it to find a new home! If anyone is...
So my D4 has been chewing through batteries for last 2 months. I bought a brand new battery and it ate through than in 6 hours turned off. Couldnt figure it out. Applied to NPS to hopefully get a break on sending it back, but their system has been down for a few weeks. Today I went to a...
I sort of ascribe to that way of thinking and sort of don't. Keep in mind that my first camera was a US Army surplus with titanium body that was built like a tank and looked like it had been driven over by several real tanks. My 'long' lens was a 1972 vintage Vivitar manual focus 400mm. So I...
If you aren't shooting 9 frames a second there is very little reason to get a $6k camera. Honestly it's overkill even for me, had the D600 been around when I bought mine it would have made a lot more sense.
In general I hate taking photos of green fields in the mid day with direct sun over head, I can never get the grass to look normal to me... I think this one works despite the awful lighting tho:

Pretty happy with how the adjusted versions came out despite the flat lighting:

Man, that is exactly what I'm talking about in color correction phase I intend. Making things appear more gritty by crushing blacks will be a part of that,
Scott, I got that you were joking but my reply made it seem like I did not. That was actually a kinda off tangent post. Sorry!
I am sooooo far behind in editing I may never catch up now. I've had to resort to just cropping and posting my annual Zombie Walk photos since I won't be able to do solid edits till next week =(

Thanks guys. I have no idea why anyone wants a 36 megapixel camera, the 12x18" printouts I just made of these 3 are stunning in their detail, i could not want for more and dont need the hassle of files that big...
Still going through the 778 pics I took today but this one was a stand out immediately: Badass American Firepower!

Happy Armed Forces Day to the fine Men & Women of the US Army and thanks for putting on a kickass show, the 1st...
Thanks for the kind words. I'm still getting used to it and I will NEVER be the post processing whiz that others are, but so far it's making me happy indeed. I wish there had been a sub 3k option that didn't go to 36 megapixels but since there wasn't I'm determined to get as much value as I...
Pretty happy with how Flowers and bugs are coming out, even without using a Macro Lens =)

I may have juiced the reds too much in this one...
I think this is my favorite shot with the new camera so far. Just a simple family snapshot of my Mom and niece goofing around:

ISO 200k SOOC is pretty unusable:

Edited with a little sharpness and noise reduction and it still looks terrible but I bet it would make an OK 4x6...
Will post some stills later, here is a rough cut of some 2.7x crop video with no adjustments SOOC. Sorry for the crappy audio quality, tried using the FCPX reduce noise function and it mostly just made the noise bubbly.
Been slammed, no time to edit (damn diablo 3 =) hehe) but will be doing so this weekend.
If you haven't seen this, more confirmation that the full frame video on the D4 is pretty unusable, but the 2.7 mode is pretty great:

Found a kickass Eagle's Nest about a mile from the Conowingo Dam thanks to a heads up from a local there as I was shooting a juvey preening herself in the trees. I spent about an hour watching the nest and got to see Momma bring back a fish for her two chicks (both of which have got to be close...
Somehow when one of my coworkers was trying out my D4 it got swapped to 5:4 shooting. Going to have to figure out how that happened, could ruin shots for me in the future if I'm not careful!
Sorry I haven't posted more, shot a ton but haven't had much time to edit.
Here's an iso 6400 shot...
Dusk shots just blow me away. Shots come back in crystal focus with more light in them than my eye is capable of seeing with manageable noise. Will post a few tonight if I can.
Know why the XQD cards are expensive? Because they are worth it. Just bought a second 16GB (the first one from the...
In my grubby little hands now:

Put about 500 shots on it so far, will post a few from my non-color corrected Air in a bit.
Loving it so far, machine gun responsive, eats dusk baseball for breakfast :)
