Uh-oh! Scientists say the future of AI in real life is the Borg!

When I bought the VHS copy of City in 1990, I honestly didn’t remember the original music. It had been several years since I’d seen it. But City still resonated and was my favorite episode. Of course, I was glad to see the music restored eventually, and I wouldn’t watch or listen any other way...
I always thought Lwaxana's story was better on DS9 than it was on TNG. Her affection for Odo is real, unlike her chasing of Jean-Luc, which is just her being a woman trying to get a man.
It’s funny, I really started watching TNG regularly in season 3, when I fell in love with it. So I went back and caught up with the first two seasons. Ever since, those seasons felt like I was discovering the past of these characters I enjoyed so much. I can see how the show was finding itself...
I tend to think that Star Trek’s greatest years were during the TNG-DS9 days, when there were two shows per week and you could really immerse yourself in that world. (I don’t include Voyager because I don’t think that show measured up.) It was certainly the most satisfying time to be a fan. That...
^ I thought The Lost Years was excellent (even if it’s been more than 30 years since I read). I tried to read Flag Full of Stars three times (finally got through it the last time), didn’t care for it. Didn’t bother with the others.
Obviously, no one - especially those in authority - likes to feel pressured, but this is the way the game is played in the age of social media. SNW was created due to similar pressures, and it is a monster hit for Paramount, giving the streaming service some of its best ratings ever. Picard...
I have to imagine that Kurtzman, saying he’s heard fans “loud and clear,” will do something to hold on to Matalas and make that project happen. Picard S3 and SNW are some of the highest rated programs P+ has ever seen. That has to motivate them. I’m less convinced that the Picard movie will...
SNW is filming from December through July, so very late 2024 is the earliest we can hope for. It’s more likely to be early-mid 2025.
Section 31 also starts filming soon. Since it’s a two hour movie, it won’t take as long as SNW.
Paramount should be meeting with Matalas STAT to get things...
Interesting to see Collins talk about her episode, although I don't know where she got the notion that Edith Keeler was going to say "Hitler was a good person." I never got that from the episode, despite the fact that her peace movement caused Germany to win the war.
I watched all the TNG films in 4K earlier this year and I think I’ve commented on them above. But I’ve been making my way through the many extras and watched one last night on the making of Nemesis, my least favorite Trek film by a mile.
As I listened to John Logan, Brent Spiner and the rest...
I always liked The Apple. Maybe because it was a heavy Chekov episode, but I still enjoy that one a lot. Maybe it's just nostalgia. Maybe it doesn't hold up.
I always liked All Our Yesterdays for the Spock-McCoy story with Zarabeth. The Kirk segment, set in yet another period of American history, seems a bit harder to swallow. (“And what do we do with witches?” “Burn them!” — not from the episode, but it always reminds me of that bit.)
Does anyone know the status of the Voyager documentary, To The Journey? I could have sworn I signed on to it, but it's been so long since I have heard anything, I'm not sure anymore!
Maybe it’s a guilty pleasure, but I always enjoy The Way To Eden. Maybe it’s the sympathy I suspect Roddenberry had for hippies, or maybe it’s just seeing tough guy Charles Napier as a flower child. But I always liked it.
Good luck with And The Children… Try as I might, I never seem to make it...
The Director's Cut is still my favorite, but I sure am glad we have all three versions in such great quality. Paramount really did give the fans what they've been asking for with this one.
BTW, when this came out last year, it was hard to find. Amazon had a delivery date that was way after the...
I like Battlefield. It’s a great third season episode and so what if it hits the nail on the head? Some people need the allegory to be that obvious.
It’s got Frank Gorshin, who’s a welcome presence in anything he did. And using sparse effects, it gives a sense of a worldwide catastrophic conflict.
You were simply never expected to be able to see those details. When you think about the average clarity that a TV had in the 60s and 70s (and 80s!), what we are seeing today is really remarkable.
I’m seeing reports that Allan Asherman has died. You’ll recall that he wrote such books as The Star Trek Compendium, The Star Trek Interview Book, and The Making of Star Trek II. He was 76.

Oh yeah, I loved that and Judgment Rites. Played both all the way through, and I’m really not a gamer. Those games had good writing that made it feel like a Star Trek episode. I bought the versions from GOG some time ago, but haven’t played them again because of the time commitment.
BTW there...
I usually don’t like these things, but this is a surprisingly good list of the best episodes. I will point out that the article correctly mentions a common criticism of Voyager - that the reset button is used too often and everything goes back to normal - but then lauds many of the episodes that...
