Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

Considering that the events of Episodes 1-3 take place 50-70 before these new films, I don't see how much of the story from those first episodes would inform these later episodes anyway, though I'm sure there will be callbacks to some degree. Either way, Rebels features several characters from...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

Han's line in Jedi has been that way for nearly 20 years. But then, people are still complaining about the other changes nearly 20 years later, so I guess your qualms fit right in, though this one seems a bit odd. This is the first I'm hearing of someone complaining about this change. And as I...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

I love the "No" in Jedi. I think it makes it more powerful for Anakin to be vocal in that moment. It's the moment he turns from being Vader back to Anakin and it always felt like it kind of needed to be vocalized. It also brings things together in that "No" is yelled in nearly every film at very...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

Greedo is only in the one scene. We don't need to learn anything about him. They practically fire at the same time, so little is changed. Either way, Han was going to kill him. That part is unchanged. Han is unholstering his blaster during his dialogue with Greedo readying to kill the Rodian...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

I expect nothing less from a fan of Red Letter Media. ;) I have no bias. I am a huge Star Wars fan, but I recognize the facts and the truth of what has/is happening with the franchise. I want this movie to be as good as it possibly can be. But I have seen Abrams Star Trek films and have...

I'll just leave this here. http://thestarwarstrilogy.com/starwars/FILES%2F2014%2F09%2FRed-Letter-Media-Episode-I-Review-A-Study-in-Fanboy-Stupidity.pdf.axdx The "reviews" are entirely inept and purposefully misunderstand and represent ignorant viewpoints that go against the facts present in...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

I will. They make for significantly better films! :D With regards to the Han/Greedo scene, in both versions it's clear that Han is about to shoot Greedo in cold blood, but in the final version Greedo gets the shot off a fraction of a second earlier. It doesn't alter Han's character or the...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

None of the changes in the Star Wars Trilogy affect the story to any real degree. They are almost all cosmetic changes and fixes. The few that I can think of are the updated Emperor/Vader scene in Empire and Jabba in A New Hope.

The moment you bring up RLM, you lose credibility, no offense. Their "reviews" are a joke. I think they blend quite well. Lucas did it similarly in Episodes 1-3, blending men in suits with digital characters. I sometimes wish he had just done this. That doesn't apply.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

If the filmmakers prefer to do that, I have no qualms with it. Funny that you bring up the Yoda puppet in Empire. Lucas could have substituted the puppet for a CGI version for the Blu-ray, but he didn't, mostly because he had too much respect for Oz's accomplishments and the puppet still holds...

Whether you like the songs or not as no bearing on their importance or lack thereof to the story and characters.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

So you dislike the original musical number too then, right? Your example does not hold water. The scene in Rio Bravo is a character building scene, therefore it has a purpose in the story. It's not a "window dressing" scene. You could also argue that the musical number sets a tone for Jabba's...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

It replaces a musical number that was already there, so you're targeting a scene that already existed and it seems like your problem is not with the alterations, but with the original sequence of events. The additions to the musical number only run about 40 seconds longer than the original...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

The added musical number was great fun and those awful stiff puppets have thankfully been replaced with fully animated digital characters that live and breath (and sing) on screen. Sy Snootles can finally move. The "new" (it's nearly 20 years old at this point) adds a lot of color to Jabba's...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

Rick McCallum didn't allow his Lucasfilm productions to go wildly over budget and over schedule, working against his employer and the man he was supposed to be supporting due to his own agenda.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

It's comical how so many of the Lucas bashers worship Kurtz, who has made a career out of taking swings at Lucas, when he nearly sank the whole ship before it had even set sail during the production of Empire. I mean, just look at his post-Empire career as evidence.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

He wrote the first draft(s) and supervised pre and post production, in addition to supervising ILM's effects. Brackett's original treatment was so off base that he and Kasdan had to pretty much start from scratch.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

This isn't a conspiracy theory or anything - Lucas did direct a large portion of Jedi and was on-set most of the time. It's pretty well documented. Marquand, good director that he was, was inexperienced with action and effects and everyone realized that early on in production.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

The problem is your tone, which seems to be looking down at others who disagree with you. The fact that you find someone who disagrees with you "shocking" says everything - your inability to understand others differing viewpoints or why they would have them in the first place. What he said.

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

The disdain for those with differing opinions is shocking. Why do you care if someone prefers something that you do not? Greedo was a pretty terrible bounty hunter in the original version too. He sits there and babbles like a Bond villain and doesn't even notice that Han is grabbing his...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

What the Oscars award is of little consequence, especially since Lucas has always been against Hollywood and is very anti-establishment. And since they are employees of Lucasfilm, they have little say in what version gets released. They were paid for a job by the artist who had the vision to...

Hardly. Argumentative? No. Just passionate and informed.
  25. Salacious Ackbar

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

This is a pretty silly argument. There would be no audience for the film without the film created by Lucas. As paying members of the audience, you have no ownership over the films aside from the right to watch the films by purchasing a ticket or a copy of the film. You can't expect artists to...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

That's hardly the argument used by most of these people. If you would believe them, there are hundreds of milions of dollars just waiting to be made by releasing the original versions. I'm not doubting that there are a fair number of people who prefer those versions, but they are in the...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

I understand. There are sales figures for the current Blu-ray's which are among the best selling catalog titles on the format, so obviously there are millions of people who are fine with the updated versions, don't see what the big deal is, or are indifferent. You have purely speculation based...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

You mean the same "loyal" fans who rant and rave at everything he's done any chance they get? Not sure how loyal they are or why Lucas should care. Either way, when an artist sells out to his audience and no longer releases art that he/she is proud for the sole purpose of pleasing the fans, then...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

As if the constant bashing of Lucas hasn't become a parody of itself over the last two decades. The same mindless drivel from the same petulant children, who happen to be grown ups, unfortunately, making it all the more ridiculous.
