I really like Focus mode, though admittedly, I only set it up for SLEEP. Focus is sort of an extension of the prior DO NOT DISTURB where you would set up alerts and contacts you either did or didn't want to hear from when putting the phone into that mode.

Yup. Apple got that fixed pretty quickly. Just updated my phone.

Dave, Thanks for taking the time to upload those photos so we could all see the comparisons. It's nice to see the increased detail and contrast in the iPhone 13 Pro over the 8.

Yeah, as I noted in my original reply, outside of pandemic conditions I couldn't understand why TouchID was necessary when Face ID works so well. However, I must admit, Dave, you brought up some very credible points.

Since the introduction of FaceID, I have never understood why people need Touch ID anymore except for when they are wearing masks and don't own an Apple Watch to automatically unlock the phone for them. Not putting down Touch ID, but I have always felt that FaceID is instantaneous and basically...

Dave, just wanted to pop in and say how happy I was to wake up this morning and read that you finally got all your setup issues resolved with the new iPhone and watch. Enjoy!

Check your new iPhone for a newly available update that is designed to fix new issues with widgets (and I think) Apple Watch.

That should work, Dave. Go into watch settings and find reset. Once you do that, you should be able to pair to the new phone. Your watch has a recent backup so during the pairing/restore process it should find a recent iCloud backup to get all your watch faces and complications restored.

I restored using the iCloud restore (instead of the one recommended by the tweet Sam shared) So far, I have phone service and the watch just asked to connect to the new phone, so very good so far. If you are having problems with your old watch and new phone you will most likely have to reset...

Yeah, this is an awful method of setting up the phone. Halfway through the setup the connection was lost to my original phone (even though it was a few inches away) and I had to start from scratch. Just set your phone up using iCloud restore for God's sake. Avoid the pain.

I have 90 minutes of transfer to go. I am doing it directly from my original phone as Sam instructed (with meme) above. Will let you know how it turns out. Dave, keep us updated

That is crazy talk. Who is going to resist using their new iPhone? It's just that there's a very real risk involved here. Putting that unprotected phone in your pocket and hoping it doesn't fall out for the next week until you get your new case. BTW, congrats DAVE and MAN on your new phones...

I feel the same way. I have a week until my Caudabe case arrives. However, it's kind of hard to keep a new phone just sitting there. Once you set it up doesn't it disable the old one? My UPS delivery should be here within 30 minutes. Map shows it in the area.

What you would have had to done, first thing this morning (or last night) is go to the UPS website where you put in your tracking number. Beneath it would have been an option to divert the delivery to another location for pickup. Up until 6 months ago, you could have it ready to be be picked...

I take it that's when you simply bring your new phone close to your old one? That starts the transfer process.

Sam, are you picking yours up tomorrow at UPS or waiting for home delivery? UPS used to allow you to divert the delivery to one of their stores or processing plants for pickup at no charge. Within the past year they now tack on a $5 fee to do that. I complained loudly and got an offer from...

Wow, Dave, that is an excellent find. I am assuming that is the very reason why there is an extra payment here. Great find. I have been simmering over that extra charge thinking it was just another means to nickel-and-dime customers.

This will be the last year of the trade-in program for me. The only problem, if I am figuring this out right, is that it's going to be expensive getting out of it since I think I am only paying half the price of the phone over the course of a year and I can't sell it if it's still being...

Man, Thanks for looking into this. I was essentially talked into the upgrade program as a matter of "convenience." In past years I would have to find an online buyer for my iPhone (which isn't difficult) and purchase my new phone outright. Here, I am essentially paying a monthly fee of...

It's turning out that, for me, the upgrade program has been more expensive than what you described. I used to sell my iPhone through an online seller and I got more money for it. The Apple upgrade program is more convenient since you don't haggle with sell prices and simply mail your old phone...

I know about that fee, I mentioned it above. There is a $58 Upgrade Fee. Not sure if that is Verizon or Apple charging that as it is not listed as a Carrier upgrade fee. So, it looks like the carrier fee is $35 and then Apple charges you $58 just to upgrade if I understand that correctly...

California Streaming - September 14th event

It's not just the first payment, but if you look at the receipt closely, they charge you an upgrade payment as well of nearly $60. I have every right to be agitated (but not upset as you cite) about what they are doing, don't you think? All these little fees that nobody talks about until you...
