I am one of those holding out for the 4k release rumored for next year. However, there is a great advantage to buying the Criterion edition. While I don't know anything definitively about this, I would assume that any 4k release from Universal is not going to include the TV edit as a bonus...

Sam, be aware this is only rumor at this point and 2022 is some time away. However, it would be foolish to believe that Universal wouldn't be planning to release this in 4k. It's a huge film for them and comedies seem to be their largest target for the format.

I will take a look at it later today. My concern is the issues with the Criterion release and the probability that Universal will release a 4k disc in the next year or so

Both. If the Universal release looks better I would rather just hold on to that as the definitive watch. I will admit, however, the jury is still out as to whether the Criterion release improves upon the original or not.

Canceling my preorder on this title.

I'm grumbling while I type this but I preordered this title. It's down to $30 which is a rare price point for a pre-release. I already own the Universal Blu-ray and it's very likely they will release this in 4k, but this is a pretty terrific movie so I made the purchase.

This is my problem with Criterion. I could have bought their release of WAR OF THE WORLDS but chose to buy it on 4k instead. Whenever faced with a BD or 4K release, I am always going to go with the latter. I would think Universal is going to release this film in 4k at some point. So, taking...
