John,
Thank you for your honest assessment.
Listen, you have been of great help to me. Thank you for your continued advice. I also want to thank everyone else participating in this thread for their input. I watch this thread very closely.
John,
Thank you.
Is the Outlaw 5000 a really significant amp?
As I stated, with enough push, I'll go and rewire everything. However, I am concerned that the labeling of the outputs will be confusing. Do I also have to change the speaker outputs?
This really has to be worth my time for...
Thanks for the suggestions, guys.
My theater room is small. The Denon is a flagship receiver and with the Outlaw amp, I am getting an incredible amount of sound.
With a $6k investment in the 4k projector I am about to receive, buying separates is the last thing on my list.
You guys do...
Doing this from memory...
I have last year's flagship Denon that has up to 9.2 channels. Then I have the Outlaw 5000 amp for the additional channels.
Maybe I already have the extra 2 channels on the Outlaw amp to do an additional two overheads. Don't know.
However, wouldn't the Denon have...
Thanks for the response guys. Not just that.....for saving me a lot of money in having to upgrade my receiver.
I already have the 6 overhead channels in place. I initially installed two extra speakers in the ceiling. The extra two are right above the screen. There is a long story attached to...
I have a question for the experts...
I thought Dolby Atmos in the home was limited to 4 overhead channels
Now I see Denon out with a new flagship receiver (AVR-X8500H) that ups it to 6 overheads.
Is the Dolby Atmos encoding capable of doing 6 overhead channels? If so, I may have to buy a new...
John, I agree.
I didn't word my answer correctly.
You don't have to buy new releases day one. What I was trying to say is that if you are looking to buy a new title it is always worth going for the 4k version as long as a Blu-ray is included. I do agree that it's better to wait for the title...
Dave,
I tried to contact the folks at Dolby to express our dismay at what is happening, but I suppose they aren't too happy with my opinion on this matter. I had hoped they would be an advocate for the studios, but perhaps Dolby is part of the problem themselves. Don't know. They remain...
Already watched WAR on 7.1 before the new player. Not going to revisit it.
I would buy Bladerunner 2049, but really did not like the original. Worth a blind purchase?
Addition: Again, an Oppo is an Oppo. Don't want to get sucked into xBox and have gaming temptations there.
I write this post with a bad taste in my mouth, but I suppose, some sense of satisfaction.
I finally hooked up the new Oppo UDP-203 4k player I bought this week. A very expensive investment -- could have gone with the Sony for half the price -- but an Oppo is an Oppo. Enough said.
We all...
Mike,
Funny you ask. The first thing I played on my basement theater Blu-ray player was this disc.
However, not the Blu-ray, but rather DVD-A. I was testing out the surrounds after I had just completed wiring.
It sounded phenomenal, as one would expect.
I forgot all about this Blu-ray...
Absolutely. Remember. you are only securing the holding brackets. If the zip ties are pulled tightly closed, they offer a strong binding between the bracket and drop ceiling frame.
My second Dolby Atmos film, SICARIO.
Firstly, I watched this on a newly purchased Oppo 103D. The previous BDP-93 would not properly play Atmos discs due to the older chip inside that model. I was getting significant audio dropouts.
So, on my newly purchased 103D, I watched this very brutal...
Paul,
I am glad that I could inspire you on this issue.
Whether the specs are exactly what they should be, I am still enjoying the benefits of overhead speakers in a low-ceiling room.
Good luck with your venture! Please post back here when you set your theater up and let us know what the...
Actually, I wasn't thinking of you. Someone on another site told me basically to forget about doing it with my room size.
Right now, Atmos was the cheaper thing to do. 4k doesn't have its shit together both on the hardware and software side. I think it's going to be another year at least...

The first time I had the opportunity to hear Atmos was at a New York City press event hosted by Dolby. Seated in their state-of-the-art...
