Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. is a bit of a different story since it was music, not actual content. I can hold my nose and deal with that. Since it appears that the only thing that exists for Our Miss Brooks is edited episodes, I can live with that as well. What I despise, however, is when we know full...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I wouldn't count The Millionaire as a 60's shows. The others aren't major shows in that they didn't go multiple seasons. I'm thinking in terms of shows that went multipe seasons such as The Beverly Hillbillies. Not to negate your hopes to see those released as I'm always happy to see someone's...

Petticoat Junction-how could I forget the sister show of my favorite show is stalled?

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I remember one of y'all posting that apparently CBS confirmed Gunsmoke was going to be finished. I suspect Bonanza will be, and I'm holding on to hope The Beverly Hillbillies will be, although I wish they'd speed up. Seeing as how My Three Sons is unstalled finally, what does that leave in the...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

You are correct. One of the first cars my parents looked at for me was a 70 something Plymouth Valiant. I wound up getting a 1975 Nova with a 262 small block motor. It still ran like a scalded dog!

Excellent! Now I'll do leaps when your crystal ball tells me S6 of my show is happening as well!

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Even if it is more of a casual friendship these days, at least CBS HE seems to be our friend for now. They've reacted a few times lately on Twitter with a "like" when I've tagged them about releasing the rest of The Beverly Hillbillies. I just wish it wasn't so slow a process. However, I'd...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Hulu, however, has a pretty good variety of classic TV, including some black and white. Dennis the Menace, Father Knows Best (they look to be cut version, sadly), the PD episodes of The Beverly Hillbillies (they do include the original music, though), The Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Which is why I dumped Netflix. They were a bastion of classic Universal shows, and then they literally all disappeared overnight. They gave fair warning the shows were disappearing, but no effort was ever made to put anything in their place. It might have been Universal who didn't renew, perhaps...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Even the streaming options are looking slim. I recently got Hulu. There are a few shows like Lost in Space and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea that started in black and white. Mr. Ed and Dennis the Menace are available and a few Three Stooges, Little Rascals, and Shirley Temple options, but...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

At least you can find what you want from "other sources." Without opening up a can of worms here, my grail can't seemingly be obtained from legitimate "other sources." I see a few 16mm prints of The Beverly Hillbillies crop up now and again, but a lot of times they're shows I already have on...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Thanks, Tony. They were very fitting for the era in my opinion. I was just sort of taken aback at first to hear 5.1 on a late 20's film! Once I was past the initial shock, it fit very nicely.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Can I pick your brain in regards to Laurel and Hardy? I watched it some as a small child back in the 70's, but I never watched it again until a month or two ago on TCM. They were showing the silent films, but the soundtrack was quite obviously "new" as it was playing in 5.1 surround on my home...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

It's the same way with music. Germany's Bear Family does beautiful box sets on major American artists, yet all we get here in the USA is greatest hits type stuff. England's Ace Records has done marvelous by Ricky Nelson's stuff. I had at one point to go through a French company to find an OOP...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

When should we expect an update on the CBS Syndication Bible if S1 of The Beverly Hillbillies is remastered for HD? It's still showing the last revision was last August. I wish we knew if S1 was going to be HD or not. Heck, I'd take Columbia House VHS quality as that exceeds the quality of the...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

It's nice to see CBS going back to S1 of The Beverly Hillbillies. While I would have preferred S5, it's a glimmer of hope for b&w tv on DVD. If they took the time to do this as the past releases and restored it from the 35mm originals, it's a nice treat.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I would be lost without a CD burner drive as I consistently burn them. I have almost 30,000 songs digitized on my computer AND subsequently backed up to an external hard drive. Forget all of this cloud nonsense! Gary, you did mention you thought we would see S5 of The Beverly Hillbillies...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Exactly! The only way I knew to acquire shows was hitting "record" on the VCR! I know I say this every time but I sure wish I would've kept my run of 6 1/2 seasons of The Beverly Hillbillies on VHS from local TV. Of course, a teenager doesn't think about the fact that the local station will stop...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I might have stated this before, but I got in on the $20 Phil Silvers deal from Amazon Canada. While certainly not Gary's doings, it was because of this forum I was clued in in it. My 16 year old son generally poo-poos anything before the 80's,even to the point of calling The Beverly...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Gary, it's been a pleasure! I understand where you're coming from. I will be going into the home stretch not too many semesters from now in an attempt to obtain my teaching degree. I already have three papers to write but at least two will be labors of love so it's not all bad. [emoji41]

And I never knew the Captain was in B&W! I grew up seeing the color episodes on local TV, and then it seems the PBS station picked them up when I got older.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I don't know if it is of interest to anyone, but I noticed JLTV (Jewish Life TV) is running Soupy Sales on Saturday morning. I sat through an episode of it, but I didn't particularly care for it that much. For those of you who have The Rifleman S1 set, how does the picture quality compare to...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I think the thing is this: his brand of humor did not work with Larry and Moe. By the time he arrived with the Three Stooges, how many years had they been doing the same act? It was time for a change, but his brand of humor didn't mesh. I think Moe was trying to tone down the "violence" by that...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Joe, I wouldn't think so, though I really don't know for sure. I'm pretty sure the PD episodes of S2 were released by MPI, so I don't know what would be the difference.
  29. Ron1973

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Exactly, Bob! Look, I understand S1 is PD, but so are some episodes in S2. They invested in those for HD quality, so why not S1?

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I guess what bugs me is the fact I heard about so many wonderful 50's shows from my parents growing up. I may never get a chance to see those shows if the market holds. Yeah, there are tape collectors and sites to buy 16mm films and the like but it's not the same and even at that, some of the...
