The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

My favorite version of A Christmas Carol is still the 1938 version. That was the version I grew up watching back in the 1960's on TV. I didn't see the 1951 version until years later on. I've never watched the Finney film.

Speaking of "A Christmas Carol" have any of you seen "The Man Who Invented Christmas" (2017) which is a film about Charles Dickens writer block struggles to write the book? I enjoyed the movie and after watching it on Amazon Prime, I bought the Blu-ray.

Yeah, I'm not sad or depressed about Christmas, just that my movie watching has been focused on other film themes. Merry Christmas to all!

For the first time ever, I haven't watched one Christmas theme film this holiday season. I might watch 3 Godfathers tomorrow, but that will be it for me this year.

Just got done watching the Blu-rays for the 1938 and 1951 versions of A Christmas Carol. The 1938 version is still my favorite, but that's not to say the 1951 version doesn't have its share of merits. It's been years since I viewed the 1951 film and I can understand why so many of you love...

I just received the BD from VCI with the correct discs. I verified the second disc with the "Campbell Playhouse" A Christmas Carol. In the next two weeks, I will sit down and watch this BD as well as the 1938 BD. As a film buff, it's a day I'm looking forward to.

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

The 1938 film is what I grew up watching on TV every Holiday season in the 1960s so it has sentimental value to me.

I have the original BD release, but haven't watched it as I always preferred to watch the 1938 film. However, this year, I have committed to seeing this 1951 film again.

I just received the latest BD of this 1951 version. Sometime over the next 4-5 weeks, I will sit down and watch that BD as well as the recently released BD of the 1938 version to see if my opinion of the 1951 film has changed over the years in comparison to my preference for the 1938 film.

Not to sidetrack this thread too much, but why is this version of A Christmas Carol more thought of than the 1938 film release?
