Magnum on set: The ALAMO They got the date of the Texas Revolution incorrect though. Wasn't 1895-96. Actually October 2, 1835 – April 21, 1836.

I wasn't expecting much in the way of picture quality from a 30 year old laserdisc source. How in the world were they able to improve the quality to such a degree? Looks like 720p! And now that we know that there's surround sound as well, makes this effort really worth a purchase. If anyone's...

Happy to report that when setting the HDMI audio output on my player to LPCM (or AUTO), and when I MANUALLY select Dolby Pro Logic Surround my Onkyo or Yamaha receiver, the DTS Master 2.0 does indeed decode Dolby Pro Logic Surround. While not as impressive as the discrete 5.1 of the shorter...

Thanks. BTW, I always use the "direct" setting on the Onkyo receiver. But it does have all kinds of other options for different audio settings such as Dolby Pro logic, Etc. don't know if that forces a simulated surround effect, but I'll experiment and see.

Mine is the second version released with the discrete AC3 5.1 surround track which requires an outboard decoder or a Pioneer receiver with the decoder built in. I have both. :)

Just turned everything off after I finished watching the shorter version. But I believe the players HDMI audio out options were: RAW, LPCM, and OFF.

Yes. The player is set to output HDMI RAW. And my Onkyo receiver says It's "DTS-HD Master 2.0". I'll tinker with it some more and see if anything changes.

The 2.0 "surround" when output direct to my receiver, reports it not as Dolby ProLogic, but simply a left and right audio signal. Doesn't even sound like stereo. The 5.1 laserdisc audio, to my ears anyway, has a fuller, richer sound. Especially the bass. When the canons fire, my walls shake...

When mine arrives, I'll compare the 2.0 "surround track" on the BD to the LD with AC3 5.1.

Guess I better hang on to my Laserdisc. It has the "extended" version with AC3 5.1 audio mix.

International THE ALAMO (John Wayne's extended cut)

Is the the extended cut of 3 hours 22 minutes on DVD in the German set simply a porting over of the extended version that exists on the laserdisc, or is this a different compilation from other sources? If so, then other than having the shorter version on BD (which I'm not that interested in) I'd...
