Well Keith, it turns out that Sony is fast and efficent, te he, ha-ha.... I'm almost suprised they didn't offer you a deluxe 510 and a ten pack of 60 minute MD's. The 333 looks pretty nice. After looking at the link above I kinda' want one. Does it have a hookup for titling via keyboard? I...
Keith, there seems to be a break in the action. I though the evil Sony wrenchmen were going to give you back your freshly hammered deck by now. Mr. Badwrench proably has some more scuplting to go, eh? Given the lull, maybe what ze wurld vants tu knowz es vhat es jor favourite coloured MD's, Bit...
Keith, enquiring minds want to know, que pasa?
As Keith noted Elite LD playes are better. They always sound better and the top of the line models yield a better picture too. I'd expect that the Elite minidisc deck has a better build and better DAC's if nothing else....
Keith, since everything about the MJ-17 "kit" you got wasn't cricket, maybe your evaluation was, say, incomplete.... I played my first MJ-17 several times through my Pioneer SP-99D's line 2 analog input the week I got it and was impressed. I then put it in my stereo system for recording vinnyl...
Keith, my stereo system has an analog Hafler pre and a Rotel amp. It also has no digital inputs. The Hafler is a modified 1980's model. Having the stand-alone Denon DAC in the system means I don't have to pay for great DAC's in every source component I might want. I had a cheap Sony 5 disc CD...
Keith, I'd suggest that you get a another Pioneer MJ-17 or Sony 940 and hook them to the DAC of your choice and you'll achieve good sound. I think the DAC is the most important thing with this format. My cheap Sonys sound great thru my Marantz AV9000 or my Denon DA-500. A Sony 520 sounds hashy...
Sorry you got a lemmon Keith! The Pioneer is a nice unit. It's greatest strength are it's analog inputs. Mine certainly never displayed any of those funky behaviors. I feel bad because I think I might have influenced you to buy the thang.
I think you overestimate the importance of weight...
I read on a thread on this forum sometime, someplace, proably somewhere over the rainbow:D , that CR-R's lose their refectivity and thusly program content over time. If this is true, I'm glad I'm archieving vinnyl on MD. I don't know how "permanent" MD recordings are, but I presume they're going...
Keith, I bought the 510 to record sound effects for my cheesy TV show and to see what MD was like. When I made my first MD of music, I was hooked. It lasted over 3 years before it broke. I used it hard too. I put an MD in it one day and it didn't go in right. It sat there making noise trying to...
Keith, I don't think there is too much difference between MD transports sound wise. I've hooked them up to my Denon DA-500 D/A converter to keep D/A conversion as a constant. I've had the following Sony's hooked up: 510, 520, 920 & the Elite MJ-17D & a friend brought over his Denon MD, the model...
