Great news to see The Ladykillers make it to UHD from Kino Lorber! I was worried it was stuck with Lionsgate as they did the old Blu-ray. Worth noting that KL did release three other big Alec Guinness/Ealing films a few years ago: Kind Hearts and Coronets, The Man in the White Suit, and The...
Fear and Desire isn't a good movie, but it it does have excellent cinematography (kudos to the DP Kubrick hired) and a few interesting scenes (one has editing Eisenstein would have admitted, kudos to Kubrick's editor). With both cuts included and all three shorts in 4K, we just need to wait for...
Managed to get my order in at the last minute after forgetting to pull the trigger
Elmer Gantry
If I Had a Million
Oh Doctor/Poker Faces (Reginald Denny double feature)
You and Me
Touch of Evil (Blu-ray) - Already have the UHD, but $14 is cheap for making my own "dual format" package.
The Trap...
The Olive Signature Blu looks great, but this is a definite upgrade for me. I felt that Olive's supplements were a bit on the light side for their Signature line, especially compared to Eureka's. Count me in for the remastered He Walked By Night as well, as I only have the triple feature single...
"Better" is an understatement. While the UHDs are the way to go if you're set up for them, even the 1080p presentations are so much improved in picture and sound quality than the earlier discs or even the MGM-issued ones. Really shows how lovely Techniscope can look. The remastered mono audio on...
I'll be honest that the continued 3D projects released through Kino are a big reason why I'm holding onto my 2015 4K display because I don't want to lose capability. Here's to hoping Avatar: The Way of Water helps bring back 3D, so I can finally upgrade to a Dolby Vision and 3D display.
For anyone still on the fence for any of the titles KL has listed, I'd say these are among the ones should absolutely pick up before it's too late:
The Birthday Party - William Friedkin directs Robert Shaw and Patrick Magee, based on the Harold Pinter play. Very nice master and it has an...
I might be wrong, but I recall at least one post that hinted that we'd get more than one Columbia 3D title. Twilight Time also released Gun Fury, Man in the Dark, and Miss Sadie Thompson. That last one ended up in a Mill Creek set sans 3D, but the first two haven't seemed to get a reissue from...
Perhaps they're saving them for another Columbia 3D film? The Mad Magician was released in April 1954 while Spooks! and Pardon My Backfire were June and August 1953 respectively. Perhaps they can include them with Man in the Dark, Fort Ti (which would be most appropriate for Spooks!), or The...
Seems like there's only one 50s title left from MGM for unannounced UHDs. Kino was smart to pick The Manchurian Candidate since Criterion's edition is a bit on the thin side. They wouldn't be able to include the HD extended cut, its commentary, or most of the remaining extras for Mad World...
Pre-ordering Touch of Evil the moment it's on the Kino shop!
What are the chances of Kino having a limited run include the 58-page Welles memo in booklet form, perhaps for those buying directly off their site?
Almost certainly from the same 4K restoration. The MGM disc was alright, but Criterion's Blu is one of the best B&W of its time. Plus, they included original mono, which wasn't present on MGM's disc. Kino seems to be porting over everything from MGM's various editions, plus adding the McBride...
All six Fields films are getting preordered the moment they're up on Kino's site. Wasn't expecting this at all and was halfway thinking they were with Shout or Criterion.
Concerning the two Renoir silents, the Lionsgate box of his StudioCanal-owned titles included two short films - The Little Match Girl and Charleston Parade alongside the two features. Were these not available for extras?
Apparently, the sales for Never Give a Sucker an Even Break weren't so great and some of the others are with another label. He only has one scene in Alice in Wonderland (and really only his voice). I obviously picked both up and I intend on grabbing at least My Little Chickadee, She Done Him...
