Paramount, The Truman Show and Star Trek: TMP - Special Longer Version need proper releases

Thanks for the link Osato. That’s exciting. Interesting to read Bill Hunt’s assessment of Paramount’s stance and what they are thinking. Let’s hope it’s soon that we will get Star Trek The Motion Picture remastered in all its variant.

Paramount, The Truman Show and Star Trek: TMP - Special Longer Version need proper releases

On this day in Star Trek history: I just saw on Trekmovie that August 7th 1978 was the first day of filming of Star Trek The Motion Picture. They filmed Kirk’s first time stepping onto the bridge.

I don’t plan to ever sell my copy of Star Trek The Motion Picture DE. It’s autographed by Robert Wise at an event at Tower Records in Los Angeles at the time of the release of this DVD.

Paramount, The Truman Show and Star Trek: TMP - Special Longer Version need proper releases

Hey Neil, I’m not surprised that the 3 disc set is sold out now. I’m glad I have a copy. I kind of wished I had a second copy as a back up. On my copy, there is a audio defect on the Shaun Cassidy / A Star a Beyond Time track. There’s two audio drop outs early in the track. I figured maybe it’s...

Paramount, The Truman Show and Star Trek: TMP - Special Longer Version need proper releases

Bill Hunt wrote though: The pandemic has made all of the Hollywood studios more risk-adverse in terms of spending money right now, so essentially Paramount has hit the pause button on the project. So I interprete that to mean that not only Star Trek The Motion Picture is paused, but...

Paramount, The Truman Show and Star Trek: TMP - Special Longer Version need proper releases

I think it’s possibly great news. Bill Hunt does say he knows more then he can tell. And it sounds like it could be positive news when he can talk about it.

Yes Joel, I’d agree. The quote from Matt Mattesino above does stress that Bruce was using a track or tracks from the TMP score for making a demo for Atmos, I listened to the interview a third time too. And since Bruce Botnick was the mixing engineer working closely with Jerry Goldsmith on The...

Paramount, The Truman Show and Star Trek: TMP - Special Longer Version need proper releases

Aha, I knew it!! No such luck that we were going to see a 4K remaster of Star Trek: The Motion Picture. :( I keep up the faith that someday, soon, Star Trek: The Motion Picture remastered will be happening. Please! I don’t have an Atmos set up right now, I feel like if this is an Atmos...

Thanks Neil for the link to the Memory Wall images. There’s a shot of Leonard Nimoy as Spock I’d seen years ago from that set. He appears to be screaming with fear, and it’s such a scary looking shot!

Paramount, The Truman Show and Star Trek: TMP - Special Longer Version need proper releases

As I said in the Star Trek films on blu ray thread, i really hope there is work being done for Star Trek The Motion Picture for 4K release on disc. But that video above with Bruce Botnick doesn’t really confirm anything in my mind. He does say he’s remastering the Jerry Goldsmith score. I...

I’m familiar with the Forgotten Trek site and it’s got some really great stuff! https://forgottentrek.com/producing-the-memory-wall-sequence/ What I know of the memory wall sequence is what you can hear in the audio commentary of the Star Trek TMP Directors Edition DVD and some of the stuff...

You don’t know that. Why are you opposed to trying? Ha, ha, quoting Decker. Just kidding you. We know Daren Dochterman was the effects guy in charge at the time and he’s still around and highly motivated for the HD remaster. So I’m sure he’s well aware of the CGI assets state and if they are up...

Paramount, The Truman Show and Star Trek: TMP - Special Longer Version need proper releases

David Fein, one of the people responsible for the Directors Edition has publicly stated all the assets are on hand. Nothing was junked. He posted this information on a thread I started on the Hoffman forums. They just need to get the business details sorted out to move ahead. If this doesn’t...

Paramount, The Truman Show and Star Trek: TMP - Special Longer Version need proper releases

Of course you guys know that in 2000 or thereabouts whilest this project was being discussed and then executed, the film was already 20 years old. The general audience and of course the fans knew the film inside and out, theatrical and extended cut. So to shorted things like the fly-by around...

I missed this thread too. Pretty nice job on finishing the matte painting in that video. :). I am ever hopeful that the Directors Edition will be remastered along with the Longer and Theatrical version.
