Care and repair and maintenance of our extinct plasma TV’s, just to keep them going a little longer.

Osato, I actually did just get an OLED delivered to my house last week! It is for my main system. The Pioneer has been removed from the family room area I was using it in and replaced by my old Panasonic plasma that was my main HT display. The old Pioneer is now retired. But I still want another...

Clinton, I see a Best Buy Black Friday sale is happening, maybe an OLED is possible still?

I tried to clean the remote contacts and most of the keys work. Except the power on/off button. I’m thinking with all the attempts at getting my Pioneer media box replacements on eBay, it’s reached a point I should retire this set. It’s had a great run since 2005.

Hey WillyTass, thanks for the reply. I should have been clearer. My remote works, but in typical fashion it seems, the buttons most used are not working anymore, power, volume up and down and channel. I meant trying to clean those contacts. I’ll try the alcohol on the PCB button contacts...

Can anyone recommend a remote control to replace the worn out remote for my Pioneer PRO RO6U Plasma? I’m going to try to open the remote and see if I can clean the contracts to rejuvenate it, but I have low hopes. This will keep it going a little longer, but I think while the display still...

I always laugh at the thought of an episode of How I Met Your Mother where Barney has a huge wall TV in his bedroom. It was depicted off screen with the light glowing on the actors faces.

I’d argue to hold onto it and try selling or giving away after the pandemic is over. Is it too big for your bedroom or kitchen area?

Nice Dave! For my plasma replacement, I’m looking at a Sony too, one of their OLED sets. I’d love to take your Kuro off your hands. i hope it finds a new home with someone who can appreciate it.

Thanks Osato! Yeah, with the plasma panel itself still looking really good, it seems a shame to waste it. And yeah, the Dr. No blu ray looks really good. When I replace my main HT display with a 4K OLED, I look forward to seeing the Bond films. I really hope that means on 4K blu ray UHD discs.

Hey guys, the recent activity in this thread had spurred me to look on eBay again for another Pioneer media box for my Pioneer plasma. I haven’t posted about this, but a few months ago, the tuner on the last Pioneer media box that I got from eBay stopped working. :(. As a fix, I used an old...

Hey guys, thought I’d chime in again. For the past 4 or 5 weeks the blinking blue LED strikes again and my Pioneer just would not reset. It would not turn on. I left it unplugged for a week and a half and no go. I just could not find a way to reset it as far as I could tell. So I got another...

Thanks Mike! Yes, I was wondering if it’s one of those situations where you install an OS update on the computer and they don’t take affect until you restart the computer.

Thought I would post an update. The Pioneer seems to be OK again. After spending the night unplugged, the next morning on Tuesday, I plugged it in and it started up ok and was on for an hour before I shut it off and left for work. I left it plugged in so it’s really in stand by mode. That...

Hi Brian, yeah, it really stinks that if the TV can’t find the TV Guide, it won’t work! It still won’t work. If this keeps up, I just may retire it and get something new. :(

Well, my success may have been short lived. I left the set on for another hour to see if it was OK and it turned itself off and the 12 flashes on the blue LED is back. :(. I’ll try it again after a few hours unplugged. Good luck with your TV sale Osato.

Guys, I had a scare this week with my Pioneer plasma. A little reminder about my set. This plasma was built in 2005-2006 and was that era when analog TV was on the cusp of going away. The TV has a analog and ATSC digital tuner, so I can enjoy over the air TV stations. But the software built in...

When my plasma died last year, I was prepared to upgrade to a Sony OLED. But to me, a TV that doesn’t last longer then 6 years is not acceptable. I know today’s electronics is not long for this world. Not only due to innovations and new technologies are coming out at a faster rate, but even a...

Sorry to hear about the Panasonic dying, Keith. Will you try to have it repaired? Maybe it’s the same thing that happened to mine, power supply failed.

Jeff, John, glad to hear your Panasonic plasmas are still going strong. I hope they keep going for a long time! After I got the power supply replaced on mine, it’s been working fine as well. So far since October 31, the set has been working just like it did before. :)

Hey Wayne, I didn’t get a chance to reply earlier. That’s great you have good screens without any image issues. :) I imagine the cost of plasmas back in the day was one reason for the rise of LCD and LED sets. To the general public, they look fine. Of course I agree Plasma is better.

That’s great Wayne, i’ve Looked at eBay in the past and I always wondered about the condition of the screen glass itself has scratches and then if the plasma screen has image retention.

Josh, I wasn’t sure what a Viking Funeral is, had to look that up. I thought you were going to do a David Letterman type thing and hurl it off a roof top. One other thing, your earlier post reminded me; I forgot to ask about the warranty on the TV repair. I’ll ask the tech, but the receipt...
