Since we have two threads on Star Trek TOS on Blu ray, I'll post this in both threads: Amazon has a listing and pricing for the first season box set. It's listed now at $129.99. Amazon price is $90.99. A little higher then I guessed. But it could change between now and then. Amazon.com...
I'll take a guess the street price will be near $80.00, maybe a tad higher at some vendors. I'm surprised there hasn't been more reaction to this news. There was a flurry of posts for the blu ray announcement of the 6 TOS films. I'm actually more excited about TOS coming out. Though I am...
I just realized, having just seen the remastered TOS series on HD-DVD S1 and then S2 and S3 on SD-DVD, this will be cool to see it again on Blu-Ray with the original effects in Hi-Def!
Opps, I spoke too soon, here's an announcement from The Digital Bits about the blu ray release of TOS. Woo-hoo, he says seemless branching for both original and CGI effects. I really hope this is the real deal! My Two Cents - Archived Posts (2/16/09 - 2/13/09) Most content from the HD-DVD...
There's a new thread in the SD-TV software section about the Blu-Ray discs posted by Hollywoodaholic. There's a new link in there I had missed from TVShowsonDVD with some artwork info that was posted on the Digital Bits. Star Trek DVD news: Rumors about Star Trek: The Original Series...
Steve- I used an on-line text translation webpage. here's what is says, nothing enlightening: Actors: William Shatner, Léonard Nimoy Language: French, English Subtitles: French Many discs: 8 Studio: Paramount Entertainment Home Coming out date of the DVD: April 27, 2009 Average...
And to add to Steve's (Camper) post, regarding some frames that are removed from the live action due to the necessity of the CGI effects requirements to "cover" over the original fades and dissolves, there are some live action bits that do suffer and the music cues sometimes do not match the new...
Camper, you mean some fans want the remastered live action and non-cgi version of TOS. Jacob, you're correct, most, as least I can speak for myself, have the standard originally aired versions of Star Trek on standard definition DVD. The carrot we are chasing is the original version of TOS...
I thought that Camper was being jokey, no? I think there's a fair chance we will get the original episodes in hi-def. They've already been remastered prior to the CGI work, so it exists. It's whether CBS will let us have them that is in question. I had posted on Trekmovie some time ago...
Jay, if you have not seen the high definition HD-DVD set of the first season, then you've not seen what the optical effects look like in HD. Not that I am putting them down, we all know that they are made with many layers that degrade them and we do see the Enterprise edges sometimes dissolve...
I have the HD-DVD of Star Trek Season One which is why I was mentioning the length of the episodes and that each HD-DVD disc had 3 episodes per HD-DVD side. The SD side had the same 3 episodes, plus the trailers and extras spread over the 10 discs. So each side was specifically HD on one side...
Travis, I also wonder though, Star Trek episodes are 51 minutes long and modern shows are 42 minutes. I wonder if those 9 minutes or so will make that much difference in how much they can fit.
Not sure I follow Zack. You mean they spread out the episodes on the standard def side because they were limited on the SD side? And as combo discs, the standard side can't hold as much?
To contrast, the HD-DVD of Star Trek S1 has 3 episodes per disc and thee were 10 discs! I don't know how that translates from HD-DVD to Blu Ray's higher storage capacity and what of the extra features like Starfleet Access will be ported over and converted to work on BD. The SD-DVD of Season...
Thanks for the added clarity Douglas! That's amazing that the original negatives, if they were used all these years to make prints, has survived so well. The remastered live action shot on the HD-DVD's of S1 and new SD remastered S2 and S3 really look impressive. I'll have another look at...
That's my understanding too Douglas. What I'm curious about, because I am not in the film business, would this camera negative be called a "master" or some sort of similar term given that all the duplicates are made from that? I guess the term camera negative is the literal piece of film in...
On the HD-DVD's of season 1, there are only a handful of episodes where they do a comparison of the original effects and new CGI effects. To watch the comparison, there is a split screen where the original is on one side and the CGI on the other. Unfortunately, you can't, as far as I know, watch...
Carl, if you refer to upscaling the original optical effects, that isn't necessary as they are on film and have already been remastered at the same time they reworked the live action film elements. The issue is that the original optical effects were made from many layers of film and look worn or...
This has been reported and discussed briefly on the Star Trek films on BD thread. The news of Star Trek TOS Season 1 deserves it's own thread for discussion and debate! One aspect of the news that I didn't see coming regarding the TOS Season 1 sets is the inclusion of the original broadcast...
