The era of TV shows on DVD is coming to an end

Maybe they acquired it and did new transfers. Possible. Is it available anywhere?

The era of TV shows on DVD is coming to an end

Every format switch, be it in television or music, leaves many things behind. When stations used to run shows off a 16mm film chain, practically every filmed series was available. When it went exclusively to tape, many shows were only transferred if a network wanted to buy it and foot the bill...

The era of TV shows on DVD is coming to an end

CBS doesn't own Cimarron Strip, its owned by Stuart Whitman's estate, unless they sold it. Also, if it was transferred to HD, first, is it complete? Because the SD masters were cut by around 5-6 minutes. Second question is, are they in the proper 4x3 aspect ratio?

The era of TV shows on DVD is coming to an end

Practically all shows which for the most part have been put on DVD. If not, then they had tape transfers done for sales years ago. Shows which have never been put to tape are unlikely to ever be seen again. To the best of my knowledge, Worldvision and MGM put their libraries on one-inch in the...

The era of TV shows on DVD is coming to an end

I'm fully aware of the Paley Center holdings on the series. ABC may have the full run but there's no way of knowing and given their propensity for purging their 2-inch videotapes, I would doubt it. My guess is that Paley acquired those episodes around 1976 when they first opened and ABC may have...

The era of TV shows on DVD is coming to an end

So you think a 3 minute clip from one episode is proof that the whole series exists? That isn't even proof that one episode exists. The Morton Downey Jr. show ran a brief clip of the Alan Burke Show. The snippet is the only thing that survives from his series.

The era of TV shows on DVD is coming to an end

The music, which was all written specifically for the show, would be the least of the issues IMO. FIrstly, its a show which never re-aired and hasn't been seen in 50 years. So, seeing how Hank sold, the sales would likely be in the same range, although DVD sold better when Hank came out a few...

The era of TV shows on DVD is coming to an end

Not to mention that every company has divisions which operate separately. That's why even though all of the big studios do their own in house transfers, yet they can cost several thousand dollars an hour, with one part of the company billing another. Nothing is free.

The era of TV shows on DVD is coming to an end

Is that true about Universal, that they are digitizing their whole library? If so, its a shame they couldn't have done it ten years sooner. DVD sales have plummeted and shows which would have gotten a release had elements been available a decade ago, would not attract any interested parties to...

The era of TV shows on DVD is coming to an end

We really are in the end game of TV DVD releases. They are just not selling anymore and the companies which do vintage releases are dwindling. Sony, Universal, MGM and Fox have long been out of that business. CBS seems to be committed to finishing Gunsmoke and maybe Bonanza but that seems to be...
