Hoppy is my wife's favorite. When she was a kid she had to spend an extended time in the hospital in Detroit. Hoppy (Willam Boyd) came through in costume and visited the kids. She still remembers it vividly.
Cheers
Hopefully this is not too far off topic. I was watching a old murder mystery last night - Moonlight Murder. The movie was so-so but the casting was interesting.
Chester Morris who we were talking about in westerns not too long ago.
But also with Duncan Renaldo
And Leo Carrillo
This was in...
I can remember listening to the Lone Ranger on radio, rather than watching the TV, because we could put the radio on the porch and play outside.
Chester Morris - no matter how many movies he did will always be Boston Blackie to me.
Actually this is me. It could happen! A lot more likely than Superman or Santa (although if I don't get off the Christmas Cookies - I'll have the waistline for Santa)
You guys write about it but I actually owned one square inch of the Yukon. I was convinced that mine had gold.
Later I found out that it had to be registered and that cost so I guess it was repossessed. :rolling-smiley:
I agree on the comic book look. I think it's fun. Probably why I enjoy Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow more than I should. It looks like it's right off the cover of
I will warn you. I really thought a lot of John but his Falcon movies stink pretty bad. They were all made in about a day each. The first one has been described as having the worst score of any movie.
Lot's of magicians in movies and TV. Milton Berle was a great card guy. Cary Grant - Orson...
Not RR but the only western star I ever met was John Calvert. We had lunch. But I met him as a magician. Just thought I add something today.
Fascinating guy. Not only was he a stage magician traveling in a large yacht in the islands doing shows with a bunch of women but he was also a pilot...
It's not a western but according to the hype Blackstone was the first comic to portray a living character. I own a few of these and the later Super Magician as well as Balbo Boy Magician.
King of the Arena didn't do all that well because, by then, the Cossack rider kidnapping a girl in a biplane had become pretty cliche and people were tiring of it.:P
Still very much enjoying the reviews. Thanks.
Bob - I don't know if you've seen this. There is a discussion on pd on RR movies with some info. Forgive me if this has already been covered.

Not Westerns but Barton MacLane shared the lead in an entire series:
ADDED - Sorry missed your pic of the Torchy Blane Series first time through. Barton did a fine job as the sometimes policeman sometimes boyfriend in this fun series. Kinda an opposite to all the heavies that he played...
