Press Release PHE Press Release: Star Trek: The Motion Picture Restored Director's Edition and Six-Movie Collection (4k UHD)

I get that some people think this is still the same slow turkey of a film, maybe with a coat of makeup, but I have a different take. It's easy to say "Wow it's so clear in HD." But it's more than that. The original film, when I saw it in the theater, and again on VHS, laser disc, DVD, all along...

Press Release PHE Press Release: Star Trek: The Motion Picture Restored Director's Edition and Six-Movie Collection (4k UHD)

What disturbs me is how I watch a transfer for a decade and think "that's how it really is," then get a new transfer without so much makeup and think, "ick." That's disturbing. Hahaha. I wish it was as simple as "Give me what's on the negative...straight...that's all I need." I never recall...

Press Release PHE Press Release: Star Trek: The Motion Picture Restored Director's Edition and Six-Movie Collection (4k UHD)

Yes, it's 18:20. They can call those releases 4K, and that's fine, because I believe we are getting everything on the negatives, but sheesh. What's on some of those negatives, is my question, after all those effects passes? But the scene I reference is apparently live action with no processing...

Press Release PHE Press Release: Star Trek: The Motion Picture Restored Director's Edition and Six-Movie Collection (4k UHD)

I know you're not trying to argue with me or be difficult. I really appreciate that. I appreciate the time and effort you have spent trying to understand what I am communicating. My apolgies for any confusion. Thank you for your patience. Here's the best I can do. To me, the second BD release...

The clearer one is from 2009. That's why I made the comment in the first place. If it wasn't, there'd be nothing unexpected to report. Get the two BDs out and compare the dark scenes for yourself (hard to tell a difference in bright scenes). I don't have the most recent 2022 BD release. But if...

Press Release PHE Press Release: Star Trek: The Motion Picture Restored Director's Edition and Six-Movie Collection (4k UHD)

For what it's worth, here is the same screen grab from both. Look at them on your system and you be the judge if they're the same (the difference in the clarity of the graphic to the left of Uhura's head answers the question for me--especially on a 60 inch).

Press Release PHE Press Release: Star Trek: The Motion Picture Restored Director's Edition and Six-Movie Collection (4k UHD)

There was another BD release after the 2009 one. I am staring at both releases. I was so mad, because I had recently bought the 2009 release, and the new one was touted as "remastered," so I bought it at Sam's Club, and when I got home and put it on, it was the finest looking BD I had ever seen...

Press Release PHE Press Release: Star Trek: The Motion Picture Restored Director's Edition and Six-Movie Collection (4k UHD)

I'm quite capable of answering my own questions. And since you butted in, how is what I say different from what anybody else says? Everything anyone says about such comparisons are their opinions. Some opinions carry more weight with some people. But to specifically call out what I say as an...

Hahah. I didn't get that. I just got the BD of the DE. I have bought all the other movies and TV series numerous times already. For example: TMP (VHS) TMP (laser disc) TMP (DVD) TMP DE (2000) DVD TMP BD TMP BD from 4K TMP DE BD (2020) And that's just the first movie. Shall I list all my WOK...

Press Release PHE Press Release: Star Trek: The Motion Picture Restored Director's Edition and Six-Movie Collection (4k UHD)

1979: The picture was locked with less than two weeks to go before the film was released. Goldsmith was still scoring the movie five days before it opened. There simply was no time to do a proper sound mix. The bridge sounds very quiet and very wooden, literally. I think the mix on the HD DE is...

I feel your pain as I do not have 4K capabilities either (can you say "Raiders of the Lost Ark?"). I bought TMP twice on VHS. Once on Laser Disc. Three times on DVD (including DE). And now three times on BD (including DE). That's nine times I bought the movie, yet I'm being denied the SLV. So I...
