Did View Master images need to be taken during the actual filming of episodes or movies in order to get a true 3-D effect? Or was it something composited later? I have an extensive View Master Collection of classic TV reels (Land of the Lost, Star Trek, Six Million Dollar Man, etc.) as well as...
My understanding is Kurtzman feels railroaded by Matalas's taking Legacy to the fans and trying to get them to pressure Kurtzman to green light after he was tepid on the idea. I didn't hear that from Kurtzman himself, however, so take it with a grain of salt. I believe it's true, for whatever...
Star Trek Universe on FB is not bad. The mods enforce the rules, though sometimes it takes a day or so. A Star Trek pages on FB go, imho, it's the best. With so much traffic, it's inescapable that you won't run into a bad experience every now and then.
There's a scene in the James Blish adaptation of the original teleplay with Spock playing his harp, wanting the music piped into the Dohlman's quarters. Uhura comes up, wants Spock to teach her, and we learn that Spock received second place in a Vulcan harp playing contest, beaten out only by...
Completely agree. When Scotty tells Washburn in THE DOOMSDAY MACHINE to do something, Scotty was using the name of the first Black first assistant director in Hollywood (who served on season one of TOS). That's worthy of a name drop. As the showrunner, having your name dropped in the series you...
That's because season 1 was so absurd and disrespectful to the Prime Trek timeline. And yet, even if it doesn't jibe with the Kelvin timeline, it feels so much more at home there.... ;-)
That said, season two of DSC is the only one I rewatch.
Even though it's technically not (perhaps for legal reasons), I see everything other than Picard as taking place in the Kelvin timeline. It's the only way it's remotely plausibly watchable for me (especially when it comes to Discovery).
Nelson I am going through my SNW Blu ray set and am loving...
Sorry if someone has already linked this but just saw it and it looks like it might be interesting.
Edit: I have to say I watched about ten minutes of this, and it gave me a headache. I turned it off when one of the voices of "authority" was Marc Cushman.
It's one of those frenetic kind of...
I used to collect everything Trek on disc. I stopped with Discovery, though I did buy Picard S1 on disc. I might buy S3 if it stays on its current respectable trajectory. The real struggle for me was whether to get SNW on disc. I decided no. I think that's it for me for Trek on disc. All I ever...
I'm close with someone who has 5000 friends and 100,000+ followers, and the sheer numbers force him to adopt a set of policies and an Internet personality that is nothing like him in reality. It taught me that until I walk in someone else's shoes, I can never understand their reality. My...
I got a free trial of FRNDLY, and it shows all the Star Trek series. There's something about sitting there, watching an episode of TOS off cable. The quality is not as good as my BD rips, which are easily accessible on a hard drive plugged into my TV. Several minutes have been clipped from the...
I thought season 1 of Picard was really good. Don't get me started on Picard Season two. I knew within 30 minutes of episode 1 it would be a hot mess. If Q is trying to "save" Picard, why strong arm Soong to run him over with a car? It was absurd. What was Not-Laris about? Ninety percent of it...
I've accepted that Trek will never be "my" Trek again. But as it goes, I thought SNW was pretty darned good. DSC is not as ridiculous as it used to be, but Burnham as a Captain in any capacity is absurd. I gave up on Lower Decks, though I hear one of them is going to appear as a live-action...
I don't know how many of you are watching Prodigy, but if you're a fan of the TOS episode "Obsession," check out the episode that dropped today, 113, "All the World's a Stage." I really enjoyed it. The series overall has been quite good for what it is.
Obviously if she said it at conventions then I believe her. All these years I have believed a completely different story. At the time I heard she quit because DS9 was ending in a year and she got a gig on a show (Becker) that would run for four more seasons. It makes me sad to learn the truth...
I remember reading this novel in high school. We had to go on a trip, I didn't want to go, so I stayed inside and read this book. I still have the paperback. I agree with you. It's one of the better one. I also liked ENTERPRISE, by Vyonda McIntire (sp?) and YESTERDAY'S SON by Ann Crispin.
Those DVDs still hold up. Truth be told, when I want to really escape from the world, I watch the DVDs because they look more like the show I loved growing up. When I want to watch an episode for other reasons, I usually watch TOS-R. But if I could only have one, believe it or not, I'd take the...
I was delighted to discover on my BD of the DE that all of the added scenes from the 1983 special longer version appear to be here, in two packages. Though not incorporated into the film, I'm happy to have the scenes by themselves. I was quite cross about not getting the special longer version...
I just watched TMP DE off my new BD. OMG it looks ten times better than when I streamed it. A whole disc of new and legacy special features too. And a new commentary by Fein & Matessino. So glad to have this. It is likely the last ST disc-based product I will buy. And it's a great one.
My best friend lived a few houses down and I used to call him the minute I realized CITY ON THE EDGE OF FOREVER was on, or JOURNEY TO BABEL or AMOK TIME. It was big excitement because the TV guide was either wrong or didn't say what episode was airing, and there was no other way to see STAR...
In my opinion she was the best Star Trek writer of all. David Gerrold said she was the one who, per Roddenberry's request, rewrote City on the Edge of Forever, but they didn't tell Harlan who rewrote it for years. Harlan wasn't a Star Trek writer; he wrote for Trek. D.C. Fontana was a Star Trek...
I'm not sure it would be possible to over saturate ST content on Paramount Plus. When I can watch in the comfort of my own home, I can never have too much ST, particularly if it's well-conceived and well written. I would love to see an all-new Trek episode released every week for 52 weeks out of...
Watching the ST Celebration was fun. It was like the Oscars but it was all Star Trek, with an orchestra playing all the main title themes.
Strange New Worlds Announcement below that some might construe as a spoiler:
I completely agree. I was just trying to play nice :)
Edit: What's worse, I believe with some rewrites and recasting, The Alternative Factor could have been one of the most gripping episodes of Trek ever.
I think episodes like The Alternative Factor, The Omega Glory and The Empath are far worse than Spock's Brain, and yet if I look at some of the Favorites Lists posted recently I see The Alternative Factor and Omega Glory listed by others as among their favorites. It just demontrates what a great...
Yes. There are so many more interesting (and plausible ways) to get a starship stranded in the Delta Quadrant--and keep it there. It's almost laughable when you isolate those moments.
A couple of years back I transferred my Trek disc library at original quality to harddrives for that very reason. I'd stopped watching the discs because they were available on streaming but 1) I refused to watch streaming because I'd paid top coin for the discs, which are better quality; and...
