Malcolm:
Let me add this.
Tonight Peg was talking about her desire to see the inside compartments of some of these old railway cars that have been refurbished and are housed at the Albany/Rensselaer train station when not in use. Really rich people buy them, renovate the interiors and then...
I wish I had something pithy to add, Malcolm. But I think I feel the same as I did back then--not that that's a BAD thing.
I think the fact that my ELAC's are just about two feet from my 9' ceiling diminish the "bounce" effect that firing-up height speakers are supposed to give. But, OTOH, I...
I'm sorry it has taken me so long to come back to this thread with a report.
But it's been a combination of lack of time to spend with the appropriate titles...and, frankly, uncertainty.
So this is an incomplete review...a work-in-progress, if you will.
I have sampled a number of Atmos...
What I'm going to need, though, is for it to be obvious that particular sounds are supposed to be coming from overhead.
I'm sure that Fury Road is going to sound kickass. In fact, every Atmos track I've tried has sounded really good. What I'm specifically unsure of is if the placing of...
Even though I've only got the Blu-ray of both those films, both Blus have the Atmos track so hopefully I can give them both a try tomorrow.
Thanks, fellas.
Understood. A number of people earlier in this thread advised me that might be a strong possibility based on the pix of my setup. I now "fear" it may be true (although everything still sounds great). But I need to find a particular soundtrack (if anyone might be able to recommend one?) which...
That's why I am reserving judgment on the Elacs. There's a lot of variables...and that's one of the most important! I gotta find something that, for sure, is designed to give me overhead fx.
Circumstances haven't allowed me a LOT of opportunity to fire up Atmos soundtracks. But in those few pieces that I've tried, my kneejerk reaction is that I'm not getting a lot of separation between my fronts and heights. And by that I mean I'm not especially getting the sensation of overhead...
Thanks, John.
I got the two-screw version of banana plugs. Those made the most sense to me design-wise. Those wires ain't gonna get pulled out of those connectors! I enjoyed a playoff baseball game on my phone while I was installing the plugs!
And I appreciate the answer to the HDMI...
Finally got tracking info!
So, while I've been waiting, I've attached banana plugs to all speaker wire at the receiver end-of-things. Something to do, right? And it sure did neaten up things on the backside of my X2000. I also removed my crudely hand-written masking tape labels on my...
Progress.
Elacs Debut 4.2 ordered Wednesday from Amazon. Delivered Thursday. Installed Friday.
Here's how they fit the room:
They passed the WAF test. Not with flying colors mind you. But they seem to have passed. Peg would absolutely love it if I could go even smaller with...
It's a tough room for a bunch of reasons. There is really only the one spot for the TV (which is right next to the thermostat!). I upgraded the thermostat to a Nest last year. THAT has been a god-send since it allows me to use a remote sensor for the thermostat (which is now conveniently...
That's what I was thinking I'd do. Angle the Polks down less and secure the Elacs to the Polks and bracket. That achieves (I hope) succeeding with the WAF. I am hoping the Elacs would be very unobtrusive. The cost and installation of new speakers (plus uninstallation of the Polks) is...
OK guys, here we go.
My living room is 12' by 15'. Two of those walls have large, cased archways (connecting with the front hall and the dining room). A third wall contains three side-by-side full windows. The ceilings are 9".
In this "fish eye" shot of the room, you are looming across the...
Thanks, John.
I'm considering my options because I'm purchasing a new Atmos-abled receiver (Denon X3600H).
The reason I am starting my research by considering the Elacs involves a fair amount of WAF. I figure they could be installed atop the Polk RTi4s and not require much by way of further...
All right, Carlo. It's time to call you out for your opinion on the added Elac Debut 2.0. :D
I'm about to enter the world of Atmos, too and am thinking they might be my best (easiest) way to try things out.
I've got a pair of wall-mounted Polk RTi4s as my two front speakers (along with two...
