The Big Lots store near me (the last remnant in a small mall which had been anchored by a K-Mart) closed some days ago.
I didn't go in there too often. I guess that was part of their problem.
I think it says a lot about how A Charlie Brown Christmas is wedded to the American consciousness that people can say a plastic tree can look like the "real thing."
I haven't contributed to this thread in ages (nor the old Wal-Mart Bargain Bin thread) but I stumbled upon this sale at a local Bed Bath and Beyond last night:
Nothing groundbreaking, obviously. But thought you guys might like to know.
Dammit, James. I was wrong. After I read your post, I realized that I wasn't actually 100% sure of that fact. And, lo & behold, I was wrong. It doesn't happen THAT often. But it did here.
From wikipedia:
She did, at least, make a major contribution to how the song was realized:
Cyndi Lauper is under-rated and unreasonably maligned.
The fact, alone, that she wrote True Colors is enough of a legacy to mark her status as a great talent.
James: If you've got a Costco nearby (I don't)...they had a bunch of WB Blus--including Cuckoo's Nest--for $9.99 a few months ago. Willie Wonka was another title they had. There were several more. Not sure if those titles are still in-store or not. It wasn't a "sale" either. It's how the...
Couple of great stories there, James!
"Atta girl" for a mom...who not only knows how to bargain and get her son good deals...but also knows a good David Lynch film when its in front of her!
Master & Commander, if you've never seen me mention it before, James, is my absolute favorite soundtrack on either DVD or Blu. And it is the sounds on-board the ship (little detail sounds like floorboards creaking) that really make me say that (NOT the big booms from the cannons during the...

The Patriot. Blu. They had this for $8. That's half what amazon has it for. happy to upgrade my DVD.
It's possible that the more technical among the HTF membership might disagree..but to my eyes, I thought The Patriot was a really...
You guys have another radio & TV guy here who is subscribed to this thread (and occasionally contributes).
I got my degree in broadcast journalism and my first job was in a small radio station in news.
Maybe it was the frugal livings we've made in broadcasting over-the-years that...
The ones I've seen have been in the same place in three different Wal-Marts in upstate NY. They have extended end caps (which are curved on the end). These $8 discs are on the sides generally on the bottom two rows below some recent BD/DVD releases.
Much like the old $5 DVD bin, there...
And if you haven't been to a Wal-Mart lately, they've got a series of BDs for $8...and a new line of movie two-packs for $19.96. Those two-packs have some really high-profile titles, too. Rocky/Hoosiers, Cast Away/Master & Commander, etc. The nice thing is the two titles are just cellophaned...
Man, James, if I bought every $10 BD I ever saw, I'd have a lot of unwatched discs in my collection. I was tempted to say "junk in my collection," but one man's treasure...
There are a lot of BD titles available for $8 to $10 right now. Do a filtered search at amazon and you'll see what I mean.
"Same crap" meaning cheap plastic housewares...or some kind of electronic media, James?
Whatever happened to the "good old days" when they'd drive up to you and sell it out of the trunks of their cars?!?
Warner DVD-A's at Dollar Tree?!?!?!
Dammit! How'd I miss out on this news? Was this a long time ago, Chris? Might I still find some at my local Dollar Trees? Is there a thread somewhere giving title listings that were floating around?!? Crap, crap, crap.
Nick: You rock! Must be some good karma going on as I am traveling this weekend and picked up a CD/DVD set for another HTFer which I'll be mailing to New Jersey this week!
I love this forum. /img/vbsmilies/htf/thumbsup.gif
