I recently spotlighted some GREAT high-rez music purchases I've made.
Here's another one! :D I'm on a roll!
Had to order this from Germany via Amazon.uk. Worth the wait. Beautiful PQ and SQ. And a great selection of classic tracks from Clapton and company.
I have made some EXCELLENT high-rez music purchases recently.
I got the Beatles' several-disc set of Let It Be (including Blu-ray with Atmos and DTS-HD MA tracks).
Then I found this gem. This is a Sinatra recording which was completely unknown to me(!). A 10-track LP from 1950 which...
I've been enjoying a couple of titles I gave myself for Christmas! :D
This SACD from MoFi is fantastic. It sounds so clean...like I just cracked open a vinyl copy back in 1966.
To think that this record is 52 years old!
And then there's this one from 1968:
The Blu-ray audio...
Hey, Paul!
This is Mike. I posted the pic which included the Mozart Requiem.
Unfortunately, I don't have the breadth of understanding of classical music as you and Phil...so I'm not really well-qualified to answer your questions intelligently. But when you describe it:
...I really can't...
I've been on a bit of a tear lately:
The Dunedin and Podger discs are excellent--as you would expect.
The Skynyrd disc sounds great, too. It contains a PCM 2.0 track. But for a recent concert, the absence of a 5.1 track is a HUGE fail. Also, oddly, the booklet included in my Skynyrd...
A rare day for me. Two new CD releases today...which I downloaded from HDTracks after midnight.
And I'll end up double-dipping on the Krall/Bennett release...because Target has an EXCLUSIVE release with two bonus tracks on it.
Crap.
I went looking specifically for a Blu release after I found the DVD and couldn't find one.
In fact, except for the URL address at Amazon (and that back cover scan), there is NOTHING on that page which indicates that the product includes a Blu-ray disc. Nothing in the title, nothing in...
I stumbled across a DVD of a concert that I somehow had missed out on.
It's a Carole King concert filmed in 2016 in Hyde Park in London. She performs the entirety of her 1971 album Tapestry...plus several of her other hits.
The DVD has a PCM 2.0 and was filmed in HD. There was no Blu-ray...
I should probably have gotten the Thriller DSD files. Instead, I cheaped out and got the FLAC 24/88 files. I figured I'd be fine with those. Remember, though, I've only done a quick sampling.
Phil: I had created an account at HDTracks a long time ago...and signed up for the e-mails. But never got one advertising a 25% off sale. I see 15% all the time and got one for 20% off last month. In fact, just this morning I got one for $10 off a purchase of $40. Oh well.Maybe now that I'm...
Phil:
You finally did it! :D
You got me off the dime and I've downloaded my first tracks off HDTracks--using that 25% discount. There was no mention of it on the site that I saw...just the typical 15% offer when I logged in.
I ordered:
Earth Wind & Fire -- All N All
Earth Wind and Fire --...
Crap. I see that HDTracks has both those EWF albums for download.
I've said for a longtime I need to pop my cherry on this music download thing. This has GOT to be the music that does it.
Gosh, if Audio Fidelity...or anyone else, for that matter...would ever release a high-rez version of EWF's All in All...I'd be first in line with all my credit cards to put down good money to buy it.
I see Audio Fidelity has released a couple different EWF albums now.
I wonder if All in...
I knew there was another disc I had picked up recently. It was the Blu-ray audio of Southern Surroundings by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Free Bird. In HD 5.1. 'Nuff said.
This disc is revelatory. You hear things in these mixes you have never heard before. Instruments you probably never even knew...
Expensive on Amazon. But I treated myself when it had dropped to $27.98. I wish these prices weren't so high.
Some of these tracks SCREAM for surround mixes (I'm listening to YOU, Hello Again!). But the stereo mixes do sound really good.
I just got MoFi's SACD of the Car's Heartbeat City.
What a blast listening to these tunes that I hadn't heard in so long. And they sounded great. In stereo. Not surround (unfortunately).
SACD 5.1 of The Rolling Stones - Sympathy For the Devil
This is an SACD single, of sorts. Maybe more of an EP.
The only Stones track on it is Sympathy For the Devil...but it IS a 5.1 mix. I have some other high-rez Stones studio recordings...but they are all stereo.
It also contains...
Big price drop on a title I've had in my cart for a long time.
1615 Gabrieli in Venice -- Choir of King's College (SACD and Blu-ray Audio)
$15.59 on Amazon!
Probably mis-delivered to someone who couldn't be bothered to see the package to its rightful destination. Plus, my wife works at home...AND we have a new dog! Pretty sure no one ever came to the door.
However, the thought of someone stealing the package off my porch and finding themselves...
I finally got my BA of 1612 Italian Vespers by I Faglionini last night (my wife thinks I'm nuts...so what's new?).
UPS delivered it to someone else's house by mistake (apparently) because they said they left it on my porch...but there was nothing there. Amazon wanted me to canvass all my...
Paul:
It IS an historic performance! Clive Owen and the London Symphony in 1966. It's really very, very good. Should you get it if you already have a favorite? Only you can answer that! I had a few...even SACD...and this one, I think, is the best. Fidelity is exceptional. That original...
Paul:
One other suggestion for you.
Not every fan of Frank is a fan of Dean...but this recording falls right in that "Swingin'" wheelhouse, too.
And in our earlier discussion about the Sinatra SACD releases I inadvertently left Swingin' Session off the list (with Swingin' Lovers and...
I'll see what I can find about the Sinatra recordings. My impression all this time later is that they just weren't finding a market--which I find so hard to believe. But to be fair, they weren't necessarily my picks for the first high-rez Sinatra releases. The two "Swingin'" releases would...
If you like Swingin' Lovers, Paul...you'll LOVE Swingin' Affair. Absolutely terrific! No one was sadder than me when the Sinatra SACD releases dried up before even completing the planned first run.
As for Can't Slow Down, I found a used copy for sale and went ahead and pulled the trigger...
