I head that one big reason these companies are selling malt beverages is that they are not allowed to advertise hard liquor on TV. This is why all the names include the brand of the "parent" company (i.e. Skyy Blue, Smirnoff Ice, Bacardi Silver). It's a way for them to expand brand awareness...
