What's on your Daily Viewing List?

For years I had known that Sammy Davis, Jr. had starred in a stage version of Stop the World I Want to Get Off and that it had been filmed by Bill Sargent the same way he had filmed Hamlet, Harlow (with Carol Lynley), and the first film version of Stop the World with Tony Tanner and Millicent...

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

I was supposed to review Marlowe when the disc was released last year, but the disc wasn't sent. Yesterday, I watched it on Prime. The sense of time and atmosphere was not consistently maintained, there was at least one convolution too many in its twisty plot, and the denouement was rather...

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

I think I mentioned several pages back that I'm reading Barbra Streisand's autobiography right now, and I've been revisiting some of her films as she writes about them. Today, I watched for the first time in at least a decade The Prince of Tides. I had forgotten so much about it, and really got...

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

I watched it a few nights ago. It's too long and occasionally meanders, and I found the characters all rather slow to catch on to the horrors going on around them. There was a lack of communication between all of the characters which kept everyone rather uninformed about everything that was...

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

One of the GREAT holiday films!

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

I saw an on-line review of Mirage today and realized it'd been years since I saw the movie, so I put it on today and watched it. Really had forgotten much about the film and its resolution. Yes, there are some plot holes and inconsistencies, but it's still an enjoyable amnesiac mystery.

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

I watched The Shawshank Redemption in 4K last night. Hadn't seen it in a few years and got caught up all over again with its characters and stories. What a terrific film with great performances.

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

Yes, the 4K rendition of the film is sumptuous now. Really enjoyed watching it a couple of weeks ago.

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

I've been reading Bill Warren's gargantuan Keep Watching the Skies! and after reading the entry on The Black Scorpion, I was happy to see it on the TCM app, so I watched it there (I had the Blu-ray, but laziness and all). In the spirit of the other giant bug movies of the 1950s, I enjoyed seeing...

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

It and Shadow of a Doubt look superb in 4K.

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

I watched Camille tonight on the Warner Archive Blu-ray. I had forgotten how much Laura Hope Crews is in the movie.

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

I watched Twentieth Century off the TCM app. The print they showed still has some problems, but it's infinitely superior to the DVD I presently own. And the movie still makes me laugh.

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

I started on the box set of Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries last night. I skipped the first one Clouds of Witness because I remember watching it on PBS in the 1970s and thinking it was endless. So, I began with the second mystery The Unpleasantness at the Belona Club. How wonderful to drop right...

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

Off the TCM app last night, I watched the documentary on silent star Francis X. Bushman. I knew only a little of what was presented by his grandson and was happy to see how long he continued to work after his star years were behind him. I knew none of this.

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

A new documentary on Katharine Hepburn is on Netflix (new to me anyway) - Call Me Kate. We see lots more home movies and private times with the Hepburn clan, but I didn't care for the vocal impersonator they got to play the elderly Kate nor the body double they use to film from the back to...

And I reviewed the Blu-ray release when it was released! Look here.

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

I saw it at Radio City Music Hall! Not the usual frothy stuff I had seen there in previous visits.

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

Absolutely. I saw both in a theater during their runs. The former, done in period, is superior to the latter, modernized and set in England, but I like both of them.

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

Yes, that was a nutty title to assign it once the 1940 New Moon made its appearance, but really the whole plot of the 1930 film has been rewritten from the original stage The New Moon, but the singing of the score's three most famous songs is sublime.

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

Ran across the 1930 version of New Moon tonight on the TCM app and was delighted to finally get to see it. I've known about this movie for decades but had never managed to see it. Of course, very familiar with the 1940 version of Nelson and Jeannette, but this one for me is the real McCoy, even...

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

The new Blu-ray does seem a bit better resolved, a tiny bit sharper, and with better color.

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

I rewatched The Long Goodbye last night. It's always a pleasure to pull down this Altman version of Raymond Chandler-land and experience it again. I have the Arrow Blu-ray. Is there any difference at all with the current Blu-ray release on this side of the pond, I wonder?

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

I will be forever mystified why the Academy didn't vote Natalie a juvenile Oscar that year. They voted one for kids in 1944, 1945, 1946, and 1948 but not for her in 1947, and it was so earned! I guess they felt she wasn't in quite enough of the movie.

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

It's my least favorite of the major Peanuts holiday specials, but I, too, watched it last night (streamed from Vudu).

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

In honor of the late Kevin Conroy, I watched Batman: Mask of the Phantasm tonight. Hadn't watched it in ages and had forgotten much about it including what a great voice cast it had. Lots of famous actors lending their talents to the film.

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

I watched the 4K streaming version of The Elephant Man tonight. Still a powerful film after all of these years.

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

I watched The Good Nurse on Netflix this afternoon. Engrossing look at a subtle serial killer, but as eccentric as Eddie Redmayne's killer is, I thought Jessica Chastain was really the star of the show and gave the best performance.

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

I watched the new documentary The Sound of 007 on Amazon Prime yesterday. Since I grew up and lived all my life with those theme songs, it was nice to get background information on their creation from recent and vintage interviews. I didn't like that they jump back and forth in time too much...

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

I started the new Ken Burns' PBS documentary tonight: The U.S. and the Holocaust. (It's the first of three two-hour episodes.) Much as I thought I knew about the Holocaust, there were plenty of jaw-dropping moments throughout tonight's first 130 minutes.

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

It's a superb movie. I love courtroom dramas, and this is so much richer than that. Outstandingly acted and directed.
