Boy is my face red. I read your post completely out of context, and thought the only comparison you had made was the same iTunes master set at 2 different resolutions and that that somehow proved that the new Blu-ray matched the new iTunes master. Mea culpa.
Of course the new HD stream is identical to the 4K stream. When iTunes uploads a new master it gets applied to all resolutions! Now either do a comparison between the 2020 Blu-ray and the 4K stream or stop making assessments.

By all means download the old version on iTunes while you can! When iTunes replaces a file with a new master they don't delete your download nor do they block your ability to play it. For example, I still have both the unrestored version of War of the Worlds on my hard drive along with the...
Yeah, the people who don’t buy the disc due to quality issues is a drop in the bucket compared to those who don’t buy it because they’ve moved on from physical media.
I just compared The Court Jester on Amazon Prime to what is on iTunes. Indeed the transfer on Prime is new! The image has been stabilized (no more bob and weave in the title sequence) and the framing is slightly different. Color also looks more accurate (subjective opinion I’m sure) as the...
