Fandango at Home (Vudu) has 100 MGM titles on sale to celebrate MGM’s 100th Anniversary. There are four titles that F@H has exclusively in 4K that you can take advantage of picking up for $5 each.
Some Like it Hot (4K HDR)
The Apartment (4K)
Fistful of Dollars (4K)
For a Few Dollars More (4K)
But if it redeems in 4K in MA, and the mapping to iTunes is still to an HD version, that will eventually get fixed. I don’t think anyone redeeming a 4K code though MA has ever permanently been screwed out of 4K.
The Fanflix deals of Warner titles redeem in Movies Anywhere so you are stuck with whatever resolution they redeem at. There are no free upgrades going that route.
iTunes has a Woody Allen 8 film bundle on sale for $9.99. Too good to pass up for me. Only caveat, Anything Else is in the wrong aspect ratio, it’s 1.78:1 when it should be 2.35:1.
included:
Anything Else
Bullets Over Broadway
Celebrity
Curse of the Jade Scorpion
Everyone Says I Love You...
Fanflix has a bunch of Sony titles, 2 or more for $4.99 each, some of which are in 4K. The Charles Bronson "Hard Times" is a 4K title. I hadn't realized that one was in 4K on Vudu/Fandango...
Just picked up Kramer Vs Kramer, His Girl Friday, and The Last Detail from FanFlix latest 3 for $15 deal. All in 4K. I didn't even know The Last Detail was available in 4K.
I generally don't talk about these FanFlix deals because they usually don't have much going for them, but this one has quite a few classic releases from Warner Home Video. I'm only interested in the ones that have not already come out on Blu-ray from Warner Archive (as the ones that have will...
I did end up buying it on Vudu. It's HD and looks pretty nice, but I'm pretty sure it's not the Criterion transfer because there is some wobble and light print damage which I doubt would be on a newer transfer. But I'm happy with it.
Only Angels Have Wings is $5 right now. Vudu is HD but iTunes SD only, and even though it’s a Sony release, it’s not a Movies Anywhere title. I don’t have either Blu-ray release and I don’t suppose the Vudu HD is the same as the Criterion master…
Apple is being sneaky this year. They saved the big $4.99 sale until after Christmas. The Tuesday before Christmas sale had mostly higher prices. But still only a couple titles that I didn't already have: American Graffiti 4K, and Man Who Knew Too Much 4K
As predicted, the big sale is on, and it’s fairly massive. Slim pickings for me, as I already have most of what’s on sale that I’m interested in. Looks like all Criterion titles on sale for $9.99 ea. (they’ve been lower).
Vudu is having a Yellowstone sale. Season 1 $6.99, seasons 2,3,4 $9.99 ea., 1883 $9.99 and 1923 $9.99. Keep in mind Vudu is the only place you can purchase these in 4K and these are great prices for 4K.
On top of that Vudu has gift cards for 20% off for even more savings.
I picked up Daniel (1983), The Lawless, and An Officer and a Gentleman (4K) for $4.99 each. Also I got Love, Actually on Vudu for $7.99 because Vudu already has it in 4K and it imported into Movies Anywhere in 4K even though neither MA or iTunes has the 4K version yet. While there is no HDR on...
Robert, what does your Roku show for the Clark Gable movie But Not For Me? Is it coming to HDX? It says HDX, but is only SD when you drop it in your cart.
Every time Warner/iTunes does one of these complete series for $14.99 it usually only lasts less than 2 days. It’s either considered a “flash sale” or a pricing error. :)
Yeah at some point, I’m going to have to cave and buy those Paramount digitals on Vudu, because it doesn’t look like iTunes has any intention of offering them in HD.
While it’s not the first time A Walk in the Sun has been on sale on Vudu, it‘s the first time I‘ve been aware. It’s the same transfer as the MDV Visual Blu-ray and is not available on iTunes.
