To put a little perspective on the "Big bad HBOMax taking candy away from babies" outrage, The 13 most recent seasons of Sesame Street are still there (seasons 39 through 52) and complete. It's reported that there used to be an assortment of over 200 classic episodes from seasons 1 through 38...
After nearly a year I think you can just say that’s the regular price. :) There are quite a few Warner classic titles that are permanently priced at $4.99.
Thanks much. With that confirmation I picked it up, which will probably guarantee a WAC Blu-ray announcement in the near future :D I‘ve got to make some time to sit down and watch it as it’s been quite a few years since I last saw it.
Specifically I’d like to know if They Died with Their Boots On is the same on iTunes. HBOMax’s transfer looks pretty good (no not WAC Archive Blu-ray good) but if the iTunes version is the same transfer, I’d pay $5 for it. I recently picked up 3 Godfathers due to it being the same very nice...
You're absolutely right. I got a little carried away there with all the new Doris Day titles. Tea for Two also does not show up in the "Remastered Classics" section, which would tend to validate that it's an old master.
So, at first look it would appear that 3 Godfathers, Tea for Two, On Moonlight Bay, My Dream is Yours, and Room for One More are brand new transfers. I’m basing this on that the image is rock-steady and there are no dirt specks. I don’t have anything to compare them to.
I looked at some of it projected. If I were to guess, I would say it’s a new master and a likely Archive Blu-ray candidate. It’s not perfect as I see some fringing that is probably inherent in the original photography. I think perhaps a lack of sharpness from the original photography may be...
And by the way, those new Warner Archive releases that just debuted on HBOMax a few months ago are already gone! Is HBOMax cycling out Warner-owned material that fast? I thought it was supposed to be like Netflix and Disney+ and carry stuff for long periods of time. It’s more like a cable...
Considering everything else that has premiered on the service has been from the new WAC masters (Million Dollar Mermaid, Flying Leathernecks, Romance on the High Seas, Strike up the Band, Sunrise at Campobello) I can’t imagine that they wouldn’t use the new masters for those as well. You’ll...
You have a winner with Life With Father. Looks brand new, rock-solid and free of specks. Little Women is exactly the same as the very good transfer that is on iTunes. Butterfield 8 and Lassie Come Home are old speckled transfers.
On the HBOMax app on my Apple device, everything is listed as HD. That can’t possibly be true as a lot of these shows have never been mastered in HD. Stuff like The Flintsones, Josie and the Pussycats and Sex in the City.
