FWIW, for anyone who's interested, but still haven't bought the big box-o-junk edition of the 1st movie, Amazon now has it for under $50 for BF deal.

Paramount has become known for doing quite substantial processing for seemingly all their releases since at least the early days of BD... just that their processing has apparently changed over the years from the most blatant, overcooked, DNR/EE jobs to what we're getting lately w/ their 4K...
Is that circa the 18:20 mark?
I don't actually have any of the BDs, but in checking the iTunes digital in HD (on my PC), which should now be sourced from the 4K transfer, I do see what seems like some blurriness issue around the area you point out, but wonder if that's not some (new?)...
Honestly, the screencap you like looks a bit overcooked w/ DNR and possibly EE to me. And the lack of graininess also suggest as much... even if the other screencap doesn't exactly look good either.
No idea how you did the screencaps and how faithful they actually are to the discs though...

Not too sure, but it's also quite possible he just likes the overcooked, DNR-ed/EE-ed look of the old BD that can possibly (even probably) seem sharper and more pleasing to the untrained eye...
That is certainly not uncommon at all...

Wait. The sound mix is actually significantly different/better than the theatrical 4K version even for all the same scenes/footages, not just the different/visually-altered ones???

So you didn't get the 6-film set then? I forget if you previously got the 4-film set.
I'm wondering if redeeming the sets' DCs now would actually give one the TMP DE 4K digital instead of the old theatrical 4K (plus DE in SD as extra)... since it looks like they've removed that old theatrical...
Ack! Somehow missed all the posts made to this fairly busy thread in last couple weeks (yet again)...
Wait, what??? Is that so Paramount especially wrt ST or what?
I wasn't paying much attention to that detail since I still have my previous 4-film 4K set, but they just had to leave the...
I suppose so... though it might not be a given they include the digital code for such a separate Director's Edition 4K. Paramount didn't for their release of the Almost Famous 4K discs afterall even though they already had the separate Bootleg Cut 4K digital entry available -- they only gave us...
But which version(s) of TMP would the digital code provide? For now (at least), they haven't updated the lone TMP digital available on iTunes nor added another entry specifically for that deluxe, box-o-junk set.
Hopefully, they'd at least bump the director's edition extra upto HD...
That seems like it may be Paramount's general policy on such. The theatrical version iTunes digital of Almost Famous, which is also what's redeemed via the disc release's DC code, also upgraded to 4K w/ just HD of the bootleg/director's cut included as an extra. And most of the rest of the...
Yeah, think I might just get/add the standalone Undiscovered Country 4K and call it a day. Not sure I feel like getting the 6-movie set and trying to get rid of my 4-movie set (to recoup some $) -- probably next to impossible to do the latter unless I'm just giving it away for free/charity or...
