UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ -The Godfather(s) 50th Anniversary Restoration -- in 4k UHD

Sadly, in many such cases particularly when it comes to Paramount, one must wonder if something like that isn't actually happening to some significant degree -- maybe not exactly, directly Brian Robbins, but whomever he's hired and given enough control/influence over such... It's kinda...

Definitely go for the BD. AFAIK, all the various reissues of the BD, except the most recent (that came out last year alongside the 4K), are that old 2008 one. Should not be hard to find one me thinks... though it probably won't be as cheap as this BB deal for the 4K... _Man_

Good point(s)... Definitely hope so... and yeah, glad to have kept my original BD set while adding the recut/made-over G3/Coda when that was first released on BD. Hopefully, the entire trilogy will someday see another 4K release that's actually faithful to the original intended look... In...

IF only we got something like this and the powers-that-be at Paramount (and wherever else) chose to go such route instead of having their desired, homogenized/biased look baked fully into the masters and these discs, etc... _Man_

... NVM... LOL, you're now the very first to ever make it on any ignore list I never previously kept on any forum sites I've ever participated before -- and I've been on forums of all kinds, including usenet newsgroups, for ~3-1/2 decades now. I do hope you're greatly enjoying this...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ -The Godfather(s) 50th Anniversary Restoration -- in 4k UHD

Sigh... I didn't say you claimed this as restoration. I pointed out the other poster, whom you erroneously defended, was the one claiming and insisting that. That's why you're mistaken in your defense of his argument(s)... plus we already agreed Coppola's free to do whatever he wants (other...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ -The Godfather(s) 50th Anniversary Restoration -- in 4k UHD

You're kinda barking up the wrong tree w/ this. Most of us weren't actually debating/arguing that -- and that newcomer was insisting it's a restoration rather than simply a new/different rendition Coppola wanted. Most of us already acknowledged Coppola's free to do whatever he wants w/ his...

Seems much more like willful ignorance or just plain trolling, particularly given that's literally all he's done repeatedly since joining HTF several days ago... I know HTF doesn't generally like to have people called out like that (and I'd been refraining until now... and still am not making...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ -The Godfather(s) 50th Anniversary Restoration -- in 4k UHD

Actually, his remarks in that interview is pretty vague relative to what's been detailed in this controversy -- that interview doesn't even talk about the color scheme/fidelity at all nor mentions anything about film grain. Also, it's not completely clear that there was no botching of the...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ -The Godfather(s) 50th Anniversary Restoration -- in 4k UHD

I wasn't kidding at all about that though. That could easily be how the HDR raw scans look if not properly processed/converted for viewing in sRGB/SDR on the web (or one's computer). Here's a quick article w/ video samples that better convey what I meant (w/ HDR video shot on current Nikon...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ -The Godfather(s) 50th Anniversary Restoration -- in 4k UHD

They really shouldn't show those w/out explaining why the "before" ones look like that -- they might be some kind of HDR RAW scans (maybe in high-bit-depth lossless HLG or something similar?) not yet properly processed/translated/converted for presentation, especially in sRGB/SDR on the web. _Man_

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ -The Godfather(s) 50th Anniversary Restoration -- in 4k UHD

Right. I was just trying to point out and distinguish those 2 things to help clarify what Dave H (and RAH) was speaking to... 35mm film (negative) certainly can have "HDR"-level range/latitude, but doesn't mean the final product was ever intended to retain all that, especially for movies...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ -The Godfather(s) 50th Anniversary Restoration -- in 4k UHD

I'm guessing probably need to distinguish 35mm projection (as original intended) from the 35mm OCN itself. The negative may very have DR that exceeds SDR (as implemented in digital video formats... w/out sacrificing nuanced tonality/gradations w/in that DR), but that doesn't mean the final...

Indeed! And while I'm probably not getting this set at least until the price drops some, especially given my mixed feelings about it, that saying seems to apply to me in the larger context of physical media anyway... as I'm finding myself drawn in for some big batches of disc orders w/ all the...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ -The Godfather(s) 50th Anniversary Restoration -- in 4k UHD

IF Paramount is giving us the option of 4K w/ the original look, I'm sure there would be far, far less outcry too... but they're not doing that at all. Also, in this case, there was a clear, fairly definitive intent (of one Mr. Gordon Willis) behind the original look that's essentially been...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ -The Godfather(s) 50th Anniversary Restoration -- in 4k UHD

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ -The Godfather(s) 50th Anniversary Restoration -- in 4k UHD

Very discouraging trend indeed, and this certainly seems to apply very much to Paramount as they definitely have a very lengthy track record of mucking releases up w/ varying degrees of excessive DNR and such though this particular case doesn't seem quite so egregious as various others in the...

That's probably the runtime for the newest definitive "Coda" version/cut of Part 3. My understanding is all 3 versions/cuts are included though (probably via seamless branching?)... According to BR.com, looks like the theatrical and 1991 director's cuts are (seamlessly branched?) on a...

Judging color diffs, especially across diff media formats, using screencaps on the web is gonna be problematic. Not only do they need to be converted for the web (and then most of us aren't using well-calibrated monitors for the web), but they start out using diff standards (w/ diff color...

That's a lot of Hitchcock in the top 20 -- 5 total that doesn't even include Psycho, which comes in at #31. And interesting that Godfather, Part 2 isn't close to the top 100 -- it's #231... though there are a lot of titles w/ the same score (of 90) by that point... Actual order (and exact...
