As high as the real estate in your area may have shot, I seriously doubt it's nearly as crazy high as over here in Brooklyn, which can be crazier than much of San Francisco Bay area (and most other urban centers outside of Manhattan), especially if accounting for actual size of living space...
That may be so... but real estate space is far more expensive over here in NYC area, even in much of Brooklyn where I am... and I'd probably need a dedicated, true HT room to match (which I almost had at one point)... :P I know, I know, why not just move and own a more affordable, more spacious...
The stuff that dreams are made of I guess -- this reminds me of some high end audiophile speakers back in the day...
I don't even own a car myself, so not sure I can ever justify spending that much on a PJ even if it might last as long as one, hehheh... :P

Alrighty, maybe just maybe I'll finally get a pair of glasses for my Epson 5050UB and see what all the hubbubs about, LOL. I was never impressed w/ 3D in the theaters, but some of you guys keep telling me it's better at home... I do wonder though if part of the problem is I wear glasses (even...
Well, you don't actually have to spend thousands on 3D-capable PJ. I'm not even sure if any of the major PJ makers make any that doesn't support 3D. Every entry level unit I've considered (or recommended to a friend) in the last 1/2 dozen-plus years included support, and they can usually be...
I agree w/ Josh... even though I actually haven't really bothered w/ 3D in my HT (so far) despite consistently owning displays that are capable -- my family just doesn't find it compelling enough to actually get the glasses... although I have spent a few extra dollars on 3D BDs in a (very) few...
Huh... I don't really see that for the video side of the equation even though I get what you mean about the audio side.
I even regularly see HTF members point out that no display will keep you very satisfied for more than a few years... but many good pieces of audio gear can actually last much...
Actually, that's not all he said. The comment seems fairly specific to Sam (though would probably be worth asking anyone else doing that)... probably at least in part because of Sam's rather adamant (and sometimes confrontational) position and track record on the subject of audio... though I'd...
I would think they could make good educated guesses based on JVC's (and industry) track record... if they really want to get those extra (preorder) sales...
I haven't seen any quotes, but it's not like any dealer would offer such a huge discount to come remotely close to killing their entire...
Yeah, I probably wouldn't really wanna buy another lamp-based PJ either. The next one will likely be my last and will need to last many years (and not still need costly lamp replacements)...
I'm guessing the laser units also run cooler than lamp-based, so there's that too, especially for hot...
Ummm... that's probably not how these things work.
Granted, having more probably means higher complexity that drive up costs all else being equal, but all else probably isn't equal. For instance, the actual elements used do not seem as high grade as those in expensive modern camera lenses...
That doesn't answer the question.
How do you know it's actually comparable to a $3.5K modern camera lens?
Look at it another way. IF JVC's making such glass and essentially hiding them in their uber expensive PJs that few people will buy, they're probably doing it all wrong and should at...
Having said that, I'm sure a lens that costs JVC say $300-400 (pre-mark-up) to make and use in a projector retailing at $10K (and won't exactly sell like hot cakes) wouldn't be insignificant.
Of course, that guesstimate is just a very rough, back-of-the-napkin kind and could be very...
How do you know that?
The NZ7/NZ8 both use a 65mm diameter lens w/ 2x zoom... and the DILA chips used aren't that big at 0.69" each (and the light going thru the lens would presumably have all 3 aligned and focused into roughly that size or maybe somewhat bigger perhaps, which should be smaller...
I said $5K-ish before, but actually, since we're talking laser models that won't need bulb replacements, I suppose I might be fine w/ bumping that up some to $6K-ish or so...

And what kinda screen size would you use for native 8K??? You must have some huge HT space... :P:rolleyes:
I'd gladly take e-shifted 8K (or really just native 4K) if it comes w/ excellent HDR (approaching/rivaling OLED) and a much more modest price tag in the $5K-ish range. Of course, that's...
