The Sound of Music on 4K Disc?

Looks good. I'll probably give them a try even at the full price -- there seems plenty more than enough there at least for a month's subscription. Thanks! _Man_

The Sound of Music on 4K Disc?

I certainly wouldn't mind doing a trial (paid or otherwise) or whatever, if the service seems worthwhile enough (and streamable via an AppleTV). This certainly gives me some incentive... Anything else on there worthwhile in general? Thanks much! _Man_

The Sound of Music on 4K Disc?

I've also never seen nor even heard of She Loves Me. With so many raves here (in tangential connection to TSoM) and my soft spot for romcoms + musicals, guess I should definitely be adding this to my queue (and maybe huge disc backlog, LOL)... _Man_

The Sound of Music on 4K Disc?

And of course, can't forget It's A Wonderful Life (being aired annually) too... I usually only caught The Wizard of Oz, TSoM, parts of IAWL and The Ten Commandments and short bits of GWTW (and rarely bits of Ben-Hur) on those annual airings myself. _Man_

The Sound of Music on 4K Disc?

Well, there are various editions/incarnations of that (same BD) over the years though... and some hardcore collectors might collect them all, LOL -- I've definitely seen one or two mention doing something like that at least for some other titles, heh...;):D I just have the original...

The Sound of Music on 4K Disc?

Not aware of that for the 40th anniv DVD, but I've never owned that (nor really paid attention to its release nor seen more than just a few screencaps) -- I had the prior 5-star collection DVD before giving it away when upgrading to the 45th anniv BD. I just took a quick look over on the DVD...

The Sound of Music on 4K Disc?

50th DVD? The 1st BD (and that digital restoration) was for 45th anniversary. 2015 was the 50th anniversary. Since they're all supposed to be the same transfer, they should all have the same color grading issue... but it's possible the corresponding DVD looks a bit different color-wise just...

The Sound of Music on 4K Disc?

That was very likely the digital restoration actually done 5 years earlier (circa 2010) w/ that transfer released on the first BD (and then again later in 2015 w/ additional extras)... Unclear how well that old 4K master would hold up for a 4K disc release now... but at least some of us feel...

The Sound of Music on 4K Disc?

Ebert mentioned her (and her writing, etc) in his written reviews and articles. Given how that generally goes, probably doesn't work nearly as well to mention her (in passing) on his movie review show (whether w/ Siskel or others later)... Here are a few quick hits from a basic google...

The Sound of Music on 4K Disc?

Guess you probably didn't follow Roger Ebert much (and maybe some others)... I was not exactly an avid follower of Ebert (though I certainly gave his reviews the most weight of all critics/reviewers), but his occasional admiring mentions of Kael were how I originally heard of her IIRC (probably...

The Sound of Music on 4K Disc?

Yeah, really wish/hope Disney would release a good 4K disc of SoM and at least some of the others even though I'm certainly not opposed to only owning 4K digital copies in some cases. For something like SoM w/ plenty of well-known, beloved music, I would think a well (re)mastered, lossless...

The Sound of Music on 4K Disc?

It's not actually what I wanna see either, but this is Disney, so... we'll probably get some kinda remake (or gasp! prequel?, sequel? or spinoff?!? ala Mary Poppins) w/ lukewarm results and then (the original) SoM might still not get released on 4K disc, LOL...:P _Man_

The Sound of Music on 4K Disc?

Totally forgot about that one. Can definitely imagine Disney throwing that and whatever other kitchen sink into the super-deluxe, ultimate ed, boxset o' junk just to inflate the price for me (and all other fans) and line their pockets some more, LOL. They wouldn't do it also to spite my...

The Sound of Music on 4K Disc?

I'd definitely buy a properly done SoM 4K disc release, especially if they tone down the seemingly overly "burnished" look (and possibly slight green bias) some bit. It's even one of the very few titles that Disney might be able to get me to swing for a super-deluxe, ultimate ed boxset o' junk...

The Sound of Music on 4K Disc?

Shouldn't be a problem. I haven't paid attention to whether Disney did this in the past, but plenty of titles from other studios are made in Mexico w/ such a stamp on the wrapper. Mexico is apparently a very large supplier of movie discs across many/all diff studios/labels... _Man_

The Sound of Music on 4K Disc?

I can't claim to know what the color timing should be, but yeah, the restored BD also always seemed at least a bit off to me. They went for a more golden, contrasty burnished look, but also made it a tad greener looking than I suspect it should be. _Man_
