Huh? The Blair Witch Project won a Razzie? I didn't love it or anything, but that seems wrong to me, heh... Oh... it was for the actress, not the film itself, although the film also got nominated, LOL... but still... _Man_

FWIW, just received another $10 GC from being a regular TCC subscriber (apparently to go w/ their current 30%-off holiday sale... although the GC probably doesn't expire and likely can be saved/stacked later as usual). Seems like they're trending toward offering $30-40/year(!) total in promo...

That's an excellent deal. I'd definitely do that if I'm not already right in the middle of my paid, annual (charter member) subscription, heh -- that's like getting 2.5 years worth of charter member discount in one shot... ;) But definitely no complaints whatsoever here, especially since...

General Discussion The Criterion Channel Streaming Service (Official Thread)

The vast majority of what they offer on the service wouldn't have 4K/HDR masters anyway (and quite a bit look to actually be in SD), so they probably haven't prioritized offering that -- they were also quite slow to join the parade in releasing 4K discs as we all know... though IMHO most films...

Right, 2.0 stereo only... but not like that many films on there would ever really need more though. I'm also a charter subscriber (so it's $90/year for me). It's probably my most used streaming service, and I'll probably never cancel it... even though I actually don't watch Criterion's own...

FWIW, I just recently watched Suzie Templeton's 2008 Oscar winning (stop-)animated short, Prokofiev's Peter & the Wolf (2006), on TCC (mainly because it caught my attention as part of this month's titles about to leave the channel). Very good, interesting (more grown-up), different take/spin on...

IF something like that's actually what happened, I suppose they might suddenly, quietly reverse that change across most/all the various platforms probably w/out ever acknowledging anything (as seems to be many big companies' MO)... _Man_

General Discussion The Criterion Channel Streaming Service (Official Thread)

True enough... though they certainly can't change physical media we already bought unlike w/ streaming. It's fair to draw the (nuanced) distinctions more accurately so everyone can decide/act accordingly. FWIW, I generally love TCC service (and own plenty of digitals... as well as discs), so...

I imagine it'd likely matter far more to Friedkin than Disney... whether or not Friedkin actually made or approved the edit himself... so maybe direct the complaint toward him somehow (w/out necessarily accusing him since we don't actually know... plus he may be more willing to get it reversed...

General Discussion The Criterion Channel Streaming Service (Official Thread)

^"Director's Edit"? The plot thickens me thinks... especially since this wouldn't be a 1st controversial revision by Friedkin (whether for this or another of his films), if so, on top of Disney's own history for such controversies... _Man_

General Discussion The Criterion Channel Streaming Service (Official Thread)

Well, they don't offer much, if any, films/content originally presented w/ (substantial) surround audio anyway, so no big deal that. But interesting that they use Vimeo to host the service... _Man_

General Discussion The Criterion Channel Streaming Service (Official Thread)

TCC is probably my most indispensable streaming service and probably the only one I'd keep indefinitely for myself -- pretty much all my other subscribed services (save for the 4-6-month/year MLB.TV I suppose) I'd probably only care to have/use (and normally pay for) a couple months a year to...

General Discussion The Criterion Channel Streaming Service (Official Thread)

Yep, me too! Pretty sure I've been receiving 2 of these every year as original charter member/subscriber (though there may have been 1 extra w/in the past year or so)... and usually just in time for the next 50%-off flash sale each time, which probably means the next flash sale is coming soon...

General Discussion The Criterion Channel Streaming Service (Official Thread)

You know... I have ta say... I appreciate the effort they put into curating and presenting each new month's run of films on the CC that none of the other streaming platforms do even though I don't often spend the time reading thru an entire announcement. They aren't merely dumping (or cycling...

General Discussion The Criterion Channel Streaming Service (Official Thread)

I'll probably keep subscribing if they keep sending those $10 stackable GCs 2-3x a year (that can be used in their periodic 50%-off flash sales), which they've done so far -- my annual renewal is due very soon. Basically works out to net of $60-70/year for me, and I do seem to use it enough...

FWIW, just received another of their sporadic $10 promo gift code for being/staying a charter subscriber... interestingly, sounds like no longer stackable like before (although the language is somewhat unclear about stacking w/ older saved codes vs new ones from this month alone)... I still...

General Discussion The Criterion Channel Streaming Service (Official Thread)

No offer here, but I'm already a charter member, annual subscriber of the streaming service. The service is definitely worth it (and I've been glad to keep the discounted annual rate), especially since they've also been giving out a stackable, non-expiring $10 GC roughly every half year so far...

General Discussion The Criterion Channel Streaming Service (Official Thread)

Yep, they seem to be offering these roughly 2x per year -- and they have all been non-expiring and stackable (and awesome for their semi-annual, 1/2-off flash sale). It's my 4th one since joining as a charter member w/ their discounted annual subscription... although one may have been exclusive...

Plus they've been giving out $10 coupons (2x so far) to shop at their store. And now that B&N seems to have killed membership discount *and* all coupon uses for their Criterion sales, those Criterion store coupons become that much more useful... _Man_

Tried to do similarly last night. Watched What's Up, Doc? w/ the family -- my 13-yo really enjoyed it, so I may just get it cheaply on Vudu or something since the BD seems OOP -- plus Truffaut's Day for Night w/ my firstborn, then Diva... and fell asleep to the rather forgettable Thank God It's...

Seems like no support for discrete surround formats... at least via Roku anyway -- I have a 1st(?) gen Premiere Plus. I hadn't really paid attention for all the films I'd previously watched w/ it -- none that I recall would likely have discrete surround tracks anyway. I did just check several...

I actually ended up doing a 4-film overnight marathon finish seemingly just beating their somewhat sluggish(?) process of expiring each of them until dawn this morning, LOL -- kinda reminds one of how B&N sales end. :P _Man_

General Discussion The Criterion Channel Streaming Service (Official Thread)

I haven't really used my subscription that much either, but will probably keep it at least for another year. The service certainly has enough films of interest that I may only want to watch once (or maybe twice) or at least shouldn't just blind purchase even during the better sales nowadays...

Tried watching Last Hurrah for Chivalry last night. Very disappointing... the video stream kept failing and/or getting stuck many times (and repeatedly drop to extremely low PQ... like it's 200x160p or something)... Tried both MS Edge and Google Chrome -- Edge was worse, but Chrome faired not...

I finally got around to do likewise as well. Noticed they actually have John Woo's Last Hurrah of Chivalry(!) running right now.
