    Anyone gone mirrorless?

I didn't use my 50mm on APC crop DSLR much either -- the effective focal length just didn't interest me much, especially since I don't usually shoot posed portraits. IMHO, the view of 50mm (or 45mm) lens is much more useful on FF body. That's largely why I liked 28mm or 35mm for APC crop when...

    Anyone gone mirrorless?

 :laugh::laugh: Probably shouldn't laugh too hard... since it was your friends' wedding, heh... Did they at least like (most of) the results? That's probably what matters most... as long as they don't plan to blow them up to be hung around the house... :P _Man_

    Anyone gone mirrorless?

Yeah, I can't even get myself to spend $600 on the Nikon Z/S f/1.8 version, but they have the even more absurd Noct 58 f/0.95 despite needing to come out w/ tons more Z/S glass... Granted, the FTZ adapter does work well and gives new life to some of their modern AFS glass (along w/ other 3rd...

    Anyone gone mirrorless?

The new Nikon Z 70-200 f/2.8 VR S looks enticing... but... I can’t see myself spending that much on it for a small mirrorless body and then not also be able to use it on any Nikon DSLRs like my D800. I think if I spend that much at this point, I’d wanna be able to use it on my D800 too. OTOH...

    Anyone gone mirrorless?

Sounds like a nice new lens acquisition, Scott. I also debated a little about the Nikon Z version, but decided against it at least for now... partly because it's still a bit expensive (despite current discount) and partly because it seems quite big/long (for what it is and what I'd prefer...

    Anyone gone mirrorless?

Anyone else using a gimbal w/ their mirrorless cam? Which one? How do you like it? I'm debating between the Zhiyun Weebill-S and DJI Ronin SC for my Z6... Would be nice if it worked w/ Ninja V, but I guess that may be asking too much... :P _Man_

    Anyone gone mirrorless?

John, Although CF-express is backward compatibility w/ XQD, seems like the XQD format itself is becoming obsolete since it just won't compete w/ CF-express due to its performance limitation. I suppose they could start pricing XQD cards much cheaper so as not to directly compete w/ much faster...

    Anyone gone mirrorless?

Just thought I might (finally) share a recent video of my youngest's solo recital shot w/ my Z6 + old Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 using Sennheiser MKE-440 stereo shotgun mic (from back of the music school's modest sized recital hall) -- she's nearly 13-yo now and has been taking lessons for ~8 years...

Speak of the devil... https://www.dpreview.com/news/3228623333/nikon-announces-z6-z7-raw-video-output-upgrade-new-firmware-adds-cfexpress-support I'll probably pass on the $200 hardware ProRes Raw upgrade for now... Glad to see CFexpress support finally arrives... Hope they make additional...

    Anyone gone mirrorless?

Now that I started shooting some video in 4K on the Z6, gonna have to upgrade my PC to keep up -- just recently started ordering parts. Didn't think I was ever gonna bother doing a DIY custom build again, but just like a couple decades ago, seems like that's (still) the best way to go for NLE...

    Anyone gone mirrorless?

Aaah... Ok... I went back a few pages of posts in this thread and didn't see you mention it. Anyway, yeah, I can definitely see what you mean when I tried the Z6 in person. The Z6 (and probably a7iii I guess) definitely has the feel of a street photog kinda rangefinder... on top of being small...

    Anyone gone mirrorless?

Wait... Cameron, did you recently buy a Sony a7iii? Or did you rent one or been using one from work or something? So are you enticed to switch to a7iii as your "general purpose" cam, if you didn't already buy/commit yet? I went ahead and bought a Nikon Z6 kit on Friday (down to the last...

Here's a real world comparison review for Eye AF by that same guy... https://petapixel.com/2019/05/16/nikon-z6-z7-eye-af-is-out-heres-how-it-compares-to-sony-and-canon/ _Man_

    Anyone gone mirrorless?

Yeah, I'm no hockey fan, but I definitely found the video shedding interesting "light" on the subject (and bit entertaining) well beyond being fairly reassuring about the Z6's capabilities (for respectable, but not-quite-pro level, performance at such high action photography... that really isn't...

    Anyone gone mirrorless?

Anyone using something like an Atomos Ninja V for videos w/ their mirrorless cams? What's your preferred choice and why, if not the Ninja V? I suppose some might also use such w/ DSLR as well... As I mentioned elsewhere, I'm likely (and previously unexpectedly) picking up a Nikon Z6 kit this...

    Anyone gone mirrorless?

Honestly, I doubt the final production cameras will be all that much better than these so-called pre-production ones, especially given how Nikon operates. One can hope though... but I'm guessing not likely... although that youtube preview compared them to Sony's 2nd gen models from a couple...

    Anyone gone mirrorless?

That's a bummer. Can't see myself spending the $$$ based on that (and other similar remarks elsewhere). Sounds like they'll at least need some serious improvements on the firmware. Ah well, maybe I'll go for their lineup sequel 2-3 years from now (when there will also be more native Z...

    Anyone gone mirrorless?

DPReview.com just put out their first impressions of the Nikon Z7, the FTZ adapter and initial Z lenses. And B&H is hosting some things to promote them over the next couple days as well -- just got this in my email...

    Anyone gone mirrorless?

Haven't been following mirrorless dev, but now, I wonder if the new Nikon ones will work well (if at all) w/ DX lenses like the 17-55 f/2.8 or the 18-70 (that was the D70's kit lens). IF they work, wonder what the effective (35mm equiv) focal lengths will be... I'd definitely consider adding...

    Anyone gone mirrorless?

If you want to be arty (or just experiment for a diff look), maybe try some slow sync flash and blur out the ambient background w/ some camera motion perhaps. If I were shooting so much (w/ flash) at such events, I'd definitely look for some opps and try a handful (or more) to go w/ the tons of...

    Anyone gone mirrorless?

Was at the Newport (Chamber) Music Festival the last few days and coulda used a good mirrorless camera for a few discrete shots here and there -- and so could the annoying pro(?) w/ his "white" 80-200L IS during our first concert featuring Tasmin Little at the Breakers. >_>_Man_Sent via HTF...

    Anyone gone mirrorless?

Too bad my wife isn't into photography, or I'd consider getting something like this for her -- I'm shopping for a digicam for her now that we've decided not to go w/ a smartphone for her. Thinking I'd just go w/ the Fuji F505 for ~$170 from Amazon. Probably more camera than she'll ever...
