OK, maybe this changed sometime this year or something w/out anyone noticing (and somehow Apple didn't bother to publicize???) or I simply didn't understand before (due to what seems like complete lack of clarity on the issue), but AirPlay (2?) from iPhone to ATV4K (using the Music app, not the...
Certainly good for while one needs to wait some time before actually firing up a movie/show for whatever reason... kinda like at (some good) theaters before they start running (seemingly endless) trailers and such... well, at least back in the good o'days anyhow IIRC... :P
A couple friends of...
The dropouts might be specific to my setup since it also seems to happen when streaming from Qobuz via my iPhone over DTS Play-Fi. Forget if it ever happens when I have my Anthem AVM60 take over the Qobuz->DTS Play-Fi stream from my iPhone (to exclude the extra channeling and back-and-forth of...
Is it just me or does streaming via the iTunes Windoze program not work consistently for others too?
Granted, I'm running an older version of the program, but still... seems like that shouldn't really matter.
I'd often have to try a bunch of times before it actually starts playing whatever...
IF it's "basically free", it probably won't be that good or appreciably better enough to matter.
That was part of the problem w/ previous multichannel hirez audio, but of course, like I said, this will benefit significantly from the trend of streaming adoption and seemingly also a fair number...
It could easily fizzle like multichannel hirez on SACD, DVD-A, BD-A although it's benefiting from the increasingly mainstream, streaming factor (and the Apple brand) and what seems like increasing adoption of more expensive, bigger headphones that might make enough diff for a good number of...
As long as we still continue to get high quality (lossless) stereo w/ all releases (except perhaps those that truly necessitate use of Atmos/Spatial Audio), I'm fine w/ this experiment that may end up being more gimmickry than real substance (most of the time)...

Spatial Audio for Apple Music a gimmick and/or mixed bag?

Guess I should at least give this a trial. Doesn't the new ATV4K come w/ a free trial subscription?
Hmmm... actually, maybe I should be doing the Apple One $20/month Family plan since I already pay $3/month for iCloud 200GB and would probably do the family plan for Apple Music plus maybe do...
Hmmm... think I might just get an iFi Hip DAC for portable use w/ the Sundaras (and maybe even my Sennheiser HD600s):
https://www.headphones.com/products/ifi-audio-hip-dac?_pos=1&_sid=006b51fa1&_ss=r
Seems like a popular, fairly affordable, portable option. Not quite as portable as USB dongle...
Hmmm... just came across the Audeze Mobius that could be intriguing, but at its price (and probably similar enough planar-mag sound while missing ANC, which I'd actually rarely want/need), not sure I can justify having it on top the Sundaras... Between that and the (cheaper) new HiFiMan Devas...
Thanks!
Maybe the ATV4K can handle more if I disconnect the Siri remote in those rare(?) times I might want/need more -- not sure how much I'd normally use the Siri remote anyway instead of just my Harmony remote.
I'm currently eye-ing an open box Sony WH-1000XM4 for ~$240 (tax-free?) shipped...
Heh... maybe I should ask this over in the ATV4K thread, but... can/does the ATV4K stream BT audio simultaneously while keeping the audio output over HDMI? I'm thinking maybe having a guest use the Sony WH-1000XM4 or similar while I use the Sundaras driven by my AVM-60 to watch stuff streamed...
Hmmm... I wonder how those Sundaras would perform simply driven by Anthem's AVM-60's headphone out or maybe my inexpensive, old Yamaha AVR's headphone out.
I probably need new cans for frequent HT usage (besides music listening), preferably something that the AVM-60's built-in headphone amp can...
Hmmm... I wasn't aware of the new HiFiMan cans in that price range (apparently currently marked down to $350). I had previously considered the different versions of the HE400 at $200-250 or so to maybe complement the HD600s, but their QC (and durability) seems rather wonky and I figured their...
Too bad something like that can't possibly supply enough juice to drive my Sennheiser HD600s all that well though...
I was tempted to check out one of these a long while back, but pretty sure none of such USB-powered DACs would have enough power to perform well for driving high impedance...
Ron,
Maybe I'm not enough of an Apple user to know otherwise, but AFAIK, the Lightning port doesn't actually do analog audio.
I just noticed Apple apparently offers a 3.5mm analog stereo to Lightning cable that most likely has a built-in ADC -- maybe it's both DAC and ADC since they claim...
Ron,
Why would you worry about this (besides the fact Lightning cables are digital)?
As Doug alluded, nobody should be spending $$$ on Airpods-whatevers if they actually cared about lossless audio all that much -- BT doesn't/can't do lossless audio, and obviously, Airpods-whatevers aren't...
