These are all (very) tempting to varying degrees... though not sure I really need 4K for any of them though, especially if they're not actually derived from new scans, which seems very unclear just from the Criterion descriptions.
I already have prior BDs of Le Samourai (Criterion) and Farewell...
Never had the latter situation. Mine always stacked fine in the past.
Think I actually have 3 GCs to use this time... partly because they sent out an extra one during Christmas season -- they may have settled into 3 GCs per year now instead of just 2x (before the 50% flash sales)... w/ the...
I might someday be bothered by that so-called "lego grain" compression (or probably not since our vision generally degrade, not improve, heh), but so far, I'm fine enough w/ Criterion's quality in most cases and would rather not have to import, especially nowadays, (and possibly also be bothered...
Never seen most of those, except Picnic at Hanging Rock, which I probably won't upgrade, plus also La Haine, which I only fairly recently bought the BD + digital, but not watched yet.
Werckmeister Harmonies definitely looks interesting enough that I might blindbuy in 4K. Maybe the Dogfight BD...
Check/search your old emails again. The $20 GC Crawdaddy and I received was from early April (*after* the last flash sale... and different from the $10 GC they also sent just *before* that flash sale). And yes, there was also another $10 GC from the other day as David mentioned (and probably...
Hmmm... in quickly checking my emails, they apparently also sent a $20(!) code to charter subscribers to celebrate TCC's birthday back in April (in addition to the usual semiannual $10 one that precedes a flash sale). Seems like they started sending the extra gift code for charter subscribers a...
Huh... definitely wasn't expecting a Criterion 4K release of The Others. Had to check that link since you added the "(!)" to the title. Was that some kinda typo or something?
Anyway, really curious if this new 4K will vastly improve on the old, lackluster BD -- it's certainly very possible...
IF you're talking the $10 (never expiring, stackable-so-far) GC that @David Norman (and @bujaki) mentioned yesterday, AFAIK, those are usually given to subscribers of The Criterion Channel streaming service roughly 2x per year (usually just ahead of each 50%-off flash sale). Not sure how...
Did you actually get the big Ingmar Bergman collection boxset from a few years ago? That actually already comes w/ a new 4K-sourced remaster that should be a decent upgrade over the old/original Criterion BD -- that certainly should be plenty enough for me anyway.

Yeah, not sure how I missed that thread in the "latest posts" side-bar given the traffic it received -- I don't normally bother checking that sub-forum's main page thread listing though, so yes, I do sometimes miss new/recent threads of interest... at least until they receive enough traffic for...
Wait... What???
That's definitely a surprise me thinks... Well, at least now we know that (general path) is a realistic possibility w/ Disney/Pixar going forward, which probably bolds well (or at least better) for many other titles under Disney's ownership/control...

I've only seen ~2/3 of it the other night... and I agree that cover seems "totally appropriate"... though the jury's definitely still very much out on how I feel about the film itself, LOL...
Never seen those HK Internal Affairs films, but maybe I'll just blindbuy the set at some point to show...
I watched maybe 2/3 of it late-ish last night and gave up to go to bed (even though it's quite short) partly because my cable internet service died unexpectedly/abruptly (and I didn't wanna wait for it to recover). Had to get up early and wasn't really getting into it enough anyway, LOL. Maybe...
Hmmm... could be from the (quick) looks of it.
Never heard of it before, which is not unusual for me of course... FWIW, it's currently on both HBO Max and the Criterion Channel...

Not completely sure, but I'm guessing probably Eat Drink Man Woman. Of course, maybe they mean to release that plus The Wedding Banquet (also directed by Ang Lee) at the same time?
That would be great, if so...

Almost ordered the barebones Lost Highway BD from the Kino sale. Guess it's good I didn't... although the Criterion BD will probably cost ~2x as much on sale...

I noticed that seems to be happening more and more ever since last July's B&N sale. For whatever reasons, they've been rather slow to gradually roll back those PMed sale prices, which of course is certainly a good thing for us (unless it somehow adversely impacts Criterion)...

Hmmm... but they're the ones w/out Jet Li in the lead role though... while the Eureka set actually included the last one starring Jet Li (reuniting w/ a few other returning supporting actors) that's apparently excluded in this Criterion set. Interesting they excluded that last one in favor of...
Regardless of how our more "modest" (2K-plus BD/4K discs) collection is (not very well) stored and sorted, hehheh, I've been having my wife pick movies from our DVD Profiler DB instead these days... and then, I go hunting for whichever she picks -- she's mostly been sorting her view of the DB...
Hidden Fortress: yes. Ran: no -- there's a StudioCanal release w/ rather poor PQ (at least by BD standards anyway) that may or may not be a worthwhile enough upgrade from the old DVD depending on how you feel about such...

And that's precisely why some of us aren't too crazy about Criterion releasing already-recently-released films on BD (unless the previous release was crappy or the like). And I do actually like most of Wes Anderson's films as well as Boyhood (and the other Linklater films to lesser degree), but...
Hmmm... Seems the Japanese release of Last Emperor is in OAR, but Amazon Japan wants ~ ¥5300 for it, which comes out to ~$43USD... before accounting for shipping charges. Also, sounds like it might have a bit of a green push/tint (probably like the OAR UK DVD).
Interestingly, there's a ~2-yo...
Hmmm... Guess I'll probably hold off a bit since Amazon UK seems to want an arm and a leg for the upcoming MOC release of A Touch of Zen, and Dragon Gate Inn looks barebones...
Thanks!

Not sure if this is the best place to ask this, but I just noticed that Eureka (in UK) recently released King Hu's wuxia classic Dragon Gate Inn via their Masters of Cinema dual format series and will apparently also release A Touch of Zen in late-Jan. I also noticed that BFI (also in UK) will...
Ugh! I didn't even get around to picking up some 6-8 Criterions I was eyeing (on top of the 8 I did pick up) in the last B&N sale, so now, there are a ton more Criterions to tempt me for the next B&N sale...
Need to accumulate a ton more rewards points for GCs to help pay for them come...
Very nice new batch, especially since I never got around to own a couple of them on DVD before.

PS: I'd post in those PR threads, but that would be a bit too redundant me thinks.
