Like the classic "would you rather" have a punch in the face or a punch in the balls. :D
My total will remain as previously posted. Travel was rather hellish with "mechanical problems", delayed flights and missed connections, and luggage put on a different plane and arriving hours later. They...
I'm going to post my summary, as it seems unlikely I'll get to watch any more this year as I'll be prepping and traveling most of Friday and Saturday.
Summary (as of 10/28)
Total Points: 29 (27 films, 4 hour-long TV eps)
New films: 11
Didn't get to watch anywhere close to what I'd hoped...
Have you watched the BBC's recent 3-part Dracula miniseries adaptation? It's three 90-minute episodes. The first episode is in Transylvania, the second is on the ship's voyage, and the third is set in London. It does take some liberties with the story, especially as it goes on, but I really...
In addition to the four movie sequels, there was also a series on Shudder a couple years back consisting of eight 10-minute episodes (basically the length of another movie). I haven't seen it, but it got mixed reviews (like most of the franchise).
Looks like an "animals attack" day on TCM Tuesday, Oct 26:
6:30 am Razorback
8:30 am The Swarm
11:15 am The Pack
1:00 pm Rattlers
2:45 pm Night of the Lepus
6:15 pm The Killer Shrews
That was fun as a throwback nostalgia watch, but that's about it. It's been years since I've watched the other sequels, but as I recall it's really only the first two that are kind of fun. I was meaning to revisit them this year, but won't have time.
Critters 2 has my favorite critters joke...
I believe I'd read somewhere that there were lines written, but Lee refused to say most of them because either 1) the dialogue was so awful he didn't want to say it, or; 2) he was in some other dispute with Hammer and this was his passive-aggressive way of protesting while still meeting the...
I enjoyed them all and like most of the sequels as much or more than the original film. Phantasm II is a bit different than the rest of the series as it was backed by Universal Pictures. It had a bigger budget, though that also meant they exerted more control over the production, including...
Yes, I think the 13 minimum is also more a suggestion than a requirement. We just want people to watch films and talk about them. There are no prizes involved, so it doesn't really matter what people watch, or how many, IMO. If you only watch 6 during the whole month, that's OK. Or even as...
I lost interest and have never finished the series, either. I'm pretty sure I watched the first three.
The Fly (1986) :emoji_scream::emoji_scream:
Scientist Seth Brundle is working to perfect a teleportation system that seems to work OK with inanimate objects but results in horrifying...
:emoji_jack_o_lantern: Creepshow (1982) :emoji_scream::emoji_scream:
Anthology of five creepy stories: a father wants his cake; a meteor enhances the growing season; a cheating couple goes to the beach; an old forgotten crate holds surprises; a germophobe finds some new friends.
If you'd...
While fans of many horror franchises can often point to something in the sequels that's kinda, sorta worthwhile, The Howling is best one-and-done. Hard to believe it's spawned so many (awful) follow-ups (there have been 7 so far).
There's supposed to be a remake of The Howling coming up...
:emoji_jack_o_lantern: Stay Out of the Attic :emoji_scream::emoji_scream:
A group of ex-cons working as movers are hired to quickly move the belongings of an old man out of his creepy old house. There is a large bonus involved if they can complete the job by the next morning. However, their job...
I feel like I've seen Ravenous before, but don't recall much about it. I also thought it starred Josh Hartnett (which it doesn't), so now I'm not sure if I'm confusing the cast or if I haven't seen it at all. I'm also wondering if I'm getting this movie confused with Alive (1993), and Josh...
:emoji_jack_o_lantern: Slumber Party Massacre (2021) :emoji_scream::emoji_scream: 1/2
SyFy's remake of the 80's slasher is a horror comedy that turns some of the tropes of the traditional slasher film on its head to reflect the times we live in. Two groups of young people are partying on...
I also love Bram Stoker's Dracula (I need to watch it again, it's been a few years) and agree that Reeves is the weakest link. I've never understood how he got chosen for the role, or why any director would think that casting decision was a good idea. This is some of what Coppola has said about it:
Friday the 13th Part III (3D) :3dglasses::3dglasses:
Picking up right at the end of the prior film, a new group of friends are arriving at another camp near Crystal Lake. Chris reveals she had been chased in the nearby woods by a hulking maniac a couple years earlier, and has stayed away until...
Wes Craven's New Nightmare :emoji_scream::emoji_scream::emoji_scream:
Actress Heather Langenkamp has been having nightmares related to her past roles as Nancy in the Nightmare on Elm Street films. After an especially vivid dream about FX people being killed on a movie set by a mechanical Freddy...
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) :emoji_scream::emoji_scream::emoji_scream:
A group of young people traveling along a road in rural Texas make the mistake of picking up a traumatized hitchhiker who commits suicide in their van after mumbling about a "bad man" and "you're all gonna die"...
Reaching the mid-point of the month, this is where I always start to feel a bit distressed and hopeless that I'll get to watch all the films I wanted or intended to watch, as well as trying to sample those positively reviewed by others. And that's in a normal year. This year, I'll have to cut it...
Friday the 13th (1980) :emoji_scream: 1/2
Twenty years after horrific events that caused Camp Crystal Lake to be referred to locally as "Camp Blood" (It's got a death curse!) counselors have returned to re-open the camp. Soon history begins to repeat itself as counselors are murdered by various...
Pumpkinhead :emoji_scream::emoji_scream::emoji_scream:
After a group of young people heading for a backwoods camp mortally injure his young boy in a dirt bike accident, local shop owner Ed Harley visits an old witch living deep in the forest and asks for her to bring back his son. She says...
I believe only Returns has any link to the prior films. The lead character is supposed to be the daughter of Jennifer Aniston's character from the first film and Ozzie appears.
Origins, as I recall, has no connection and was pretty awful, IMO. I viewed it for a past Challenge.
A couple of new series premieres, which oddly seem to share a number of character tropes.
Chucky S1:E1
Picking up a short time after the conclusion of events in Cult of Chucky, Jake Webber picks up a Good Guy doll he finds at a yard sale (Is it "vintage"? Is it "retro"? Do we "care"? For some...
Friday the 13th (2009) :emoji_scream::emoji_scream:
After 10-year-old Jason witnesses his mother being beheaded, he lays low for 30 years until he returns to kill people who dare to camp on the shores of Crystal Lake.
Pretty insipid remake of the 1980 slasher classic. About the only thing the...
Yeah, my parents also managed to convince me that Santa shopped at Sears. When I wrote my list/letter, they said I should include page numbers from the Sears catalog. :lol:
I found the time jumps kind of frustrating, but managed to watch the entire thing and will at least start season 2. I didn't think there was enough "monster slaying", though. Seemed like mostly human drama.
