This. It's always near the top of the list even when there are no recent posts.

That's partly because they're sending a number of what likely would have been successful theatrical releases in the past to their streaming service instead (Pixar's Turning Red; Hocus Pocus 2, etc.).

Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

Theaters are still reluctant to resume a full schedule around here. We have one multi-plex that seems to be running a pre-pandemic 7-day schedule, but others are still mostly just evenings/weekends. The box office seems to be doing pretty well, so I can only think these must be related to lack...

Still haven't heard of any outbreaks caused by attending movies. I don't understand why the first instinct of these politicians is to go after businesses that are operating safely.

As I've said before, if you're waiting for the virus to disappear completely before living life again, you're in for a long, long wait. If you're vaccinated/boosted and take reasonable precautions, in all likelihood you'll be fine. Most of the serious complications/deaths are among the...

That could be precisely why they're not included. It would piss off a whole bunch of people who already bought tix and made plans for dinner, transportation, babysitters, etc. "Oh, sorry. Can you come back next Tuesday? That would be great, thanks."

The upcoming October releases seem to be bringing some more local theaters back to life. One of the bigger multiplexes in Chittenden County reopened a couple weeks ago, and the other small town theater near me that remained closed will open next weekend.

Theaters around Vermont are verrrrry slowly reopening, even with the imminent arrival of Fast & Furious 9. The one multiplex that's been open through most of the past year is expanding to six days a week, though mostly just evening shows with matinees on weekends. The first theater in a...

Studios seem to really be stepping up their TV advertising, so they must finally be planning to stick to release dates. I've seen numerous TV ads today for A Quiet Place Part II, The Conjuring 3, In the Heights, Peter Rabbit 2, and Fast & Furious 9.

The one local multiplex that's open in this area will be playing Scoob! starting this weekend. Not sure if this is part of a wider release, or just a title requested by this theater. The film has been on streaming and disc for months. Other area theaters claim to be reopening in June. A couple...

Yep, a fair number, though not on every street like in some areas. A few are inside other businesses, like a Walmart or supermarket, but we do have a few stand-alone 'bucks. Other seemingly national chains we do NOT have: Popeye's Chicken, Krispy Kreme, Red Lobster, Golden Corral, Dairy Queen...

Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

Yep, Vermont's pretty small so I don't think we have the volume most of the chains would want. Most existing theaters are small, in downtown/Main Street type areas. The only significant multiplexes are around Burlington and Rutland, and most other areas probably couldn't support a large...

Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

Local theaters are making noises about reopening toward the end of the month. They opened for about a month around the time Tenet was released, but closed again when the studios kept withholding further new releases. Regionally, I know of only one multiplex and one arthouse theater that have...

There seem to be a lot of references to recirculated air in these threads. Most every HVAC system has a fresh air intake or air exchanger. Very few are closed systems outside of laboratory uses or health care quarantine rooms. Many also contain filters. Other than being outdoors, a large...

Looking for a small silver lining, I believe these are the newest theaters in the region and are state-of-the-art stadium theaters (and as noted, have the only IMAX screens in the region). Once we get back to some semblance of normal-ish, and movies begin to be released again, they should be...

Regional chain Cinemagic announces theaters will not reopen. These were also the only theaters in the region that offered some IMAX screens. The only IMAX screening I've ever seen was at the Hooksett, NH, location (Pacific Rim)...

My area theater is offering private theater rentals, as well, but not as reasonable as AMC. You can rent the large-format theater for $350, or a smaller theater for $275.

Well, they don't mention any time limit on the GC's, so you can probably wait. And other articles about this new company claim they're reducing prices on concessions, so you might actually get more for your GC dollars than you used to...

Could just be a bad location with disappointing revenue/high expenses? I know Lowe's built a brand new big box store in a town in my area a few years ago, then decided to close it just 14 months later.

Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

By the MPAA's own demographic studies, teenagers are one of the smallest groups of frequent moviegoers. So I'm not sure why so much programming seems geared toward them. The sweet spot for moviegoing is ages 25-39, followed by 40-49, then 60+...

Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

Yep, the holes in the screen, the barely-maintained projector with a weak lamp, the tinny sound either through a mono window speaker or weak FM signal, the bugs, the heat/cold, the rain, people walking by all the time to restrooms/concession, the headlights/exhaust from cars coming and going...

Movies & Cinema during the Pandemic? Catch-all Discussion

I think part of the problem is that many think a vaccine is a month away, and when the calendar clicks over to 2021, we can go back to the way things were a year ago, and the studios can begin releasing their tentpoles to packed theaters again. It's going to be a rude awakening in early January.
