If they did, they'd probably have to recast Genie, as Will Smith seems to be toxic in Hollywood after the slap. I think most of his forthcoming projects were put on hold.
Man, no one in this film was cast for their singing voice, that's for sure. They really should have dubbed all the musical numbers. Each one was an assault on the eardrums. Yikes.
Yes, I think a lot of the reviewers are comparing to the original film that they grew up with, rather than reviewing the current film. I'd rather know, if the original film did not exist, what would they think of this film?
I don't think anyone was clamoring for any of these remakes of animated...

Zayn (Malik) was a member of One Direction. He was the first to leave the group and go solo. He's had a couple of big hits in the U.S. ("Pillowtalk" was #1; "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" was #2). Never heard of the other person on the duet.
I've never understood how they come up with the descriptors for these ratings. You can watch two films with similar content and their ratings will seemingly have different descriptions even though they contain scenes and situations warned about on the other rating.
I'm sure there is action...
I still think the actor they cast as Aladdin looks too old (regardless of his actual age). There was an ad for the Broadway version in this week's EW magazine and the actor pictured there looks much more like what I'd expect.
Either that's a bad picture, or the guy playing Aladdin is 40-something. Seems kind of creepy.
Well, from an equal-time perspective, they've put a shirt on Aladdin, too. In the animated film, he mostly wore only a vest, with no shirt.
I would say that was at his discretion. If I go above and beyond my assigned duties at work, I don't suddenly get a larger paycheck. In any case, they must have resolved things as Williams returned to voice Genie again in the second sequel, Aladdin and the King of Thieves.
Do the original writers usually get paid again when any film is remade? If you're paid once for a film script, I'm not sure why you'd get paid again if they remake the film in the future, unless you in some way own the copyright. I'm not sure this is anything specific to Disney.
Disney seems determined to release their films only during certain months of the year. For the current year, they've mostly abandoned the late summer/early fall season. They have not opened a film since August 3 (Christopher Robin) and don't have anything out until November 2 (Nutcracker)...
Well that was a whole lot of nuttin'
Some sand dunes, a distant shot of Agraba, Iago flying in the night sky, and a few seconds in the Cave of Wonders.
Nothing there that generated any excitement for me.
